You can guarantee that there will be opt outs from playoff teams. #12 #10 etc are never winning a title. Those players are going to opt out.

4 has always been the right number.

You go look at the BCS numbers and take the top 4. That's it.

I like the BCS formula better, but I'm not unhappy with the committee.

Georgia is actually the team that got screwed this year and I think the only acceptable tweak to the four team system is going to 6, with 1 and 2 getting a bye. Beyond that it's absurd.

In this day and age it's not hard to evaluate the teams. Look at FCS - as time as gone by, the eventual winner has come from a higher seed. With the internet and expanded TV coverage, people are not having a tough time figuring out which teams are the best.

1. I thought that they should have expanded to 8 teams instead of 12.

2. If teams are in the playoffs then their best players won’t be hitting the portal or opting out.

12 is too many. 8 is plenty. Needed more than 4. Just look at this year. I can see why the top 4 are there, but Georgia needed to be in the playoff too. And YES, FSU with ALL their guys should have been in.

I mean…look at FSU, lol. Do we really need to see these kinds of blowouts styled as “playoff” games?

Anyone who uses this game as a benchmark for anything other than how opt-outs affect the bowl games is kind of dumb.

Anyone who thinks FSU is making a Cinderella run with a backup QB is dumb. Also, FSU’s opt outs were mainly on offense, which doesn’t explain the way that UGA was able to move the ball at will using even its backup QB.

FSU did not belong in the playoffs. UGA did.

The entire offense opted out and you're surprised their D doesn't give a frick against a very talented team? OK.

Slightly more on offense, not mainly offense. Much of the starting D Line was out.

These aren’t all starters. There are a lot of backups in that list.

You can say whatever you want about Florida State having players opt out, transfer, etc

There is no version of Alabama that gets beat like this to anyone at any time

The right team got in the Playoff

Basically every playoff in major sports has teams in it with no chance of winning.

There’s no reason it wouldn’t. Teams go on streaks all the time. Players get hurt, some players make leaps in performance.

This is literally why the games are played…to find out. If you, me or anyone else actually knew there’d be no point to any of this.

That’s an excellent indictment of playoffs in general. By all means, let’s add still more teams with no shot.

We should never have left the BCS.

I really thought they should have gone to 8. Is 8 to many? Yeah I think it is, but you'd get 4 auto-bids from the 4 conference champions and then the 4 highest ranked after that

Also losing a 3rd game should disqualify you, should NEVER be a 3 loss team in the playoff. I don't care what your argument is, 3 losses is to many to "excuse"

TCU is a better example. FSU had half their starters opt out.

No. Hell, our 2020 team would've made it still even after Shoegate. But I guess it's the next best thing since having 6 or 8 was apparently out of the question.

There is no point to a 12 team playoff. Four teams is stretching it.

The current no. 12 (OU) is not going to suddenly get hot and go through the likes of UGA, Bama, Texas, Washington, Michigan, et all. It’s completely absurd to suggest that they will.

Hell..they couldn’t even take care of business against #14 Arizona on Thursday.

Probably not 12 teams year-in and year-out, but with NIL and the portal leveling the playing field with the nameplates, upsets and teams getting hot could definitely fuel "a chip and a chair" Chris Moneymaker playoff run.

I think CFB is about to enter the best, must watch, phase it's ever seen. People love variety, not endless repeats.

Is it?

2014-15 OSU
2017-18 Bama
2021-22 UGA.

All were champions. None were a 1 or 2 seed.

And this isn’t counting 3-4 other teams that made it to the championship game.

You don’t know who can beat who until they play.

Well it’s a good thing I’ve never said this.

It’s also a good thing that this exact configuration of teams and rankings isn’t the only one that will ever happen in the future. That’d be pretty boring.

There are barely 4 each season. 12 team playoff is going to produce the same 60-3 scores we saw today.

Nope, look at the average margin of victory with the 4-team playoff. That’s why the BCS is the superior product.
