Does anyone seriously believe that there are 12 legitimate contenders in any given season?

I mean…look at FSU, lol. Do we really need to see these kinds of blowouts styled as “playoff” games?

No. There almost assuredly will be a 3 loss team in the playoff next year. Look how many 3 loss teams were knocking on the door this year.

The players that have opted out would, likely, have not opted out if they were in a 12-team playoff this year, so kind of an apples/oranges comparison...

Most years there are not even 4 legitimate contenders. I never wanted to move beyond 4. What you're going to have is Ohio State Michigan resting starters for the playoffs instead of playing in the big game

It's teams like PSU that lost their two biggest games and will get in that I don't care about. I also think conference championship games> first round Dec 20/Dec 21> NYE/NYD quarterfinals> semis> finals is asking a lot of the players and fans.

If a 10-12 type seed won it all it would be considered a Cinderella story similar to a 10-12 seed doing it in CBB

There was nothing really at stake in this game…hence all of the opt outs.

Obviously this won’t be the case in the playoffs and teams would be much more mentally prepared

Of course there aren’t a dozen worthy teams. Prolly fewer than 6. But like everything else in CFB, it’s all about the money.

It’ll never happen. This ain’t CBB.

12 obviously no

But one pro of the expanded field is that we’ll be able to see a 10-2 or 9-3 team that finished the regular season on fire still be in it

No, just look at the 10 and 11 ranked teams. Penn State couldn’t beat the only 2 teams they played with and pulse all year and Ole Miss lost to a team that didn’t even make the playoffs by 5 TDs.

Because a team ranked outside of the top 10 has never beaten a “title contender”.

Nope. Never in the history of college football rankings.

Of course there won't be that many legitimate contenders, but money is the only thing that matters.

If the decision makers actually cared more about the sport than the money, they would've had a 6 team playoff with the top 2 getting byes from the beginning.

And 12 teams in the playoffs.

That's the plan anyway. We'll see if it works.

The top teams are already showing to not have quite as much depth as they have in the past.

Make the bowl games 70/30 to winner - players get a cut

The teams with the byes will have a huge advantage having a week off

Will be some serious beat downs that way

Sure that’s happened.

It’s not going to happen three weeks in a row.
