I used to equate college football to the sound of the band’s drums playing a badass rolling drum beat during a crucial part of the game. Think 90s era college football. A ground and pound Big 10 game, LSU outslugging Mississippi State in a hard fought night game, or a late night PAC 10 game.
No longer do I associate that sound with college football. It’s just corporate tv jerking jt around by the balls, kids demanding shite, and stupid piped in music like bitch I’m from weeziana.
The fondness of the game is gone. I will always love LSU, will love the fact I got to be a senior the year the Tigers won in 2003, but the sport has gotten out of control.
Old man yells at clouds, I know.

Transfer portal needs to be addressed first

The neat thing about the transfer portal for some of the non-Blue Bloods:
If you are WR4 at an elite program, you can now go to another Top 25 program and be a WR2 and get enough live reps to develop into a WR1 much faster.
Same if you were a DL that rotated in on 3rd Downs or Series, you now have the chance to go somewhere else competitive that will immediately give you 600 snaps a season.
The Blue Bloods don't like this because it hurts their depth. They are no longer able to stockpile upperclassmen beyond 2-Deep that can step in from the wings. Those guys can just go elsewhere and bet on themselves to perform in live games without riding the bench.

NIL and portal are good things, but not perfect.
NIL is a constitutional right, it always should've existed.
What we actually need is university paid athletes with salary caps. Realistically the salary caps should be capped based on power 4 average income, if not you end up with big dog teams able to spend several times the amount of lower income teams.
Another thing, the Transfer Portal needs MUCH stricter windows. You have no idea how to build a roster if you have no idea who's going to transfer unexpectedly. I feel that there should be two windows. A window between the end of the season and spring camp. Then a second one some time after spring camp that ends in first week of fall camp.
Another thing is players should be required to sign contracts if they are recieving compensation, but they should be no more than 2 years long.
Also, true Freshman that take a standard (not medical or acedemic) redshirt should not be allowed to transfer to a FBS school after their freshman season without losing their redshirt unless granted a released by their school. For example: if you redshirt your freshman season and attempt to transfer during the off-season your redshirt will be revoked and will lose a year of eligibility, or you may keep your year of eligibility and play at a lower tier of school for 1 year.
Do those things and you fix every major issue with 2024 college football. You pay the players like they deserve, balance resource parity among top teams, and fix the unpredictability of the transfer portal.

As someone who was a proponent of both (separately and properly executed) I hate what CFB has become. Hell college baseball is worse!!
Neither tool was properly implemented and an open portal is open free agency with unfettered pay for play. It’s a nightmare scenario.
I believed that a “licensing” model for true flat rate NIL would have solved the issue. Couple that with a one time transfer portal and you have best of both worlds. Players get paid for the use of their NIL and they have a chance to correct a poor choice

ULL and Tulane fans seem pretty happy with the changes (at the current moment).
I wouldn’t say the Cajuns are happy with how things are. We’ve lost some tremendous players to NIL and the Portal.
RB Emani Bailey TCU
CB Makai Garner LSU
WR Kyren Lacy LSU
OG O’Cyruss Torrence Florida
OG Cam Waites Florida
RB Montrell Johnson Florida
DB Trey Amos Bama/Ole Miss
DB Cam Pedescleaux Tulane
WR Dante Fleming Tulane
That’s without going back and really digging into it. So I’d say the current setup isn’t in the Cajuns best interest.

I like coaches can't lie to players like they used to.

Everything that made college great is gone. How can you learn your own players and watch them grow. Now you have to wonder if they will even be there next year. Isaiah Bond betrayal (not really he did what he needed to do for himself) but I really liked him at bama and for him to leave just made me feel betrayed. And it will just worsen. I hate the playoff. I’m sure the games will be entertaining when they happen but bama and lsu are diminished because of all the changes which makes the football worse to watch.

Stories like Pavia to Vandy have made it interesting.

Meanwhile I am watching NFL more and more these days. 5 years ago I'd call you nuts if you told me I'd be watching NFL more than College Football but here I am. Might as well watch the real thing instead of the cheap knockoff.
I’m with you, man. At least there are no false pretenses in the NFL. We know they’re getting paid, looking for the next big contract, etc. I can’t even get past the stupid suits our players show up in walking down Victory Hill with the gaudy chain necklaces. Then again on the sidelines, dudes with black backpacks are running around taking pictures of the players with these gaudy chains they’re wearing and pulling out other chains from their backpacks DURING pre-game warmups. Social media and NIL deals have ruined college football for me. Totally get why Saban retired. It used to be all business walking down the hill and then warming up, playing hard for the guy next to you, staying humble and playing your a$$ off for 60 minutes regardless of the score.

frick you for ruining the greatest sport ever created. Go watch the NFL and stop taking a shite on college football

It is pretty terrible, I am spending a whole lot more time with the NFL games on and ignoring Saturdays except for historically intriguing games. They need to get a handle on it.

Does Anyone Actually Like College Football More with NIL and Unlimited Portal?
Jcorye1
I know the real high end recruits were getting paid under the table, but it just feels like another soul less corporate product now.

I think this is probably one of the best college football seasons in my lifetime. Lots of upsets and unpredictable wins. It’s been great!
