I know the real high end recruits were getting paid under the table, but it just feels like another soul less corporate product now.

It's cool to see some stories like Penix having the year he did last year. Or, Dillon Gabriel going to a NC contender. But, for the most part, it's out of control.

The playoff is pretty legit. It's cool that what happened in Oxford yesterday has actual meaningful post season meaning.

We need contracts and some sort of binding agreements fast, which I think is coming. Players will be making money, so we just have to get over that.

It started out so fun this year, but the past 3 weeks have been pretty weak, IMO. We'll see how the playoffs go.

The SEC just seems like a jumbled mess where you may have a two loss team get screwed because they go to the CCG and pick up a third loss. The B1G may end up with four one loss teams - IU would probably be odd man out if they get three in - or, what do you do if IU loses a close one to OSU, then OSU has another close loss in the CCG?

The football programs are simply semi-pro at the least and are completely separate from the normal university life.

I'm guessing funding is a huge reason they'll never want to disassociate from the universities. I don't see how this is sustainable long term.

Its ruined it for me. College football has essentially become background noise for me on Saturday now. I've gone a few Saturdays so far this year without even watching any games.

I used to be the type who would sit on the couch on Saturdays all day start to finish and even stay up for the Hawaii game. No more.

Meanwhile I am watching NFL more and more these days. 5 years ago I'd call you nuts if you told me I'd be watching NFL more than College Football but here I am. Might as well watch the real thing instead of the cheap knockoff.

Hate it, especially as a fan of a G5 program. You pretty much have to just plan on your best player, or players, getting poached every offseason by a P5 program.

Reminds me a lot of what goes on in the high school ranks in Texas.

The high school I went to... any time my high school has a player who has a breakout season as a sophomore or junior... all of a sudden his family magically moves to Aledo, or Southlake, or Allen, or another ultra priviledged upper scale white high school with a strong football program

My high school is basically a feeder system for the Aledos, Southlake Carrols, Allens of the world.

This is what college sports have become, on steroids. Basketball is even worse in my opinion. Many schools having new starting 5s every season.

NIL, yes.

Unlimited portal sucks.

The “‘middle class” Power 4 teams are doing much better with the new rules. Like there’s no way Indiana would be 10-0 in the pre-portal era. They’ve been very successful because they were able to poach a lot of really good players from successful G5 programs.

I freaking love this new era. The old era was nothing but professional wrestling where the NCAA allowed certain programs to flaunt the rules while the middle class teams were put on probation. It was a joke.

Now that everything is above board and anyone can do it you see the death of the fake dynasties and parity happening.

NIL along with the portal is unbelievable for the middle tier programs. My team, GT, has more 4 stars than ever due to both the portal and NIL. We have bought a few players and had some players transfer to us for playing time who were stacked in the depth chart at UGA and others. Sure, we’ve lost some nice players to the portal but all in all it’s been a net positive for the mid tier teams. Meanwhile, the Bama, UGA’s, LSU’s. Michigan’s aren’t nearly as deep.
