Based on what?

I guess Nebraska doesn’t even get mentioned anymore in threads like this?

Nebraska without partial qualifiers, county scholies and steroids will never be the Nebraska of the 90's.

We'll see with Texas. They're by far the closest.
Herman has no reason to not get it done next season. Has Ehlinger coming back along with a team full of guys he recruited.
Miami and USC will always have the built-in advantage of being geographically desirable, so when they decide to be good they will be in short order.

I think Texas is the only one with potential due to university backing

Miami Football
1926-1982: .546 winning percentage
1983-2003: .835 winning percentage
2004- 2019: .596 winning percentage
Canes fans seem to think the 21 years in the middle is their reality, and the 73 years in either side is the anomaly.

the right coach and staff in southern cal is going to recruit the region, prepare the team and ride a great qb to a natty. From then on... Top 5.

Miami will never be back. USCw seems like they are going the same way with no support from the administration
Didn't Will Muschamp replaced the OC? So your team shall get another chance to compete.

The college football paradigm has shifted to the SEC/Clemson with occasionally Ohio State rising to their level.
I’m starting to wonder if this should be a real concern for the overall health of the sport.

Miami died with the old orange bowl
They will never be back to what they were 20 years ago.

Literally all starts with recruiting. Since 2010 go and look at the teams with the top 5-10 recruiting classes consistently. These are the teams that have made the playoffs.

Yes of course. But as the talent funnels evermore into the southeastern schools, do other programs decide to up the ante to compete or do they decide to accept second tier status? Miami and USC seemingly are ok with mediocrity. I think this is bad for fan interest.

Texas has the best chance.
The administrations at the other 2 schools don’t care enough.

How would you say West Virginia is doing in the Big 12? Mediocre?

I think college football should have relegation

Miami is dead and will never be the same. They have zero advantages when it comes to alumni support, atmosphere, and facilities compared to the elite.
Texas and USC could easily be powerhouses with the right coaches.

Miami was never a “blue blood” in the first place. I think they’re done forever.
Miami is basically like Clemson will be starting about 4 years after Dabo’s departure. (At which point Dabo’s successor will run out of his recruits.) A non traditional power that thinks their accomplishments in a relatively short span are actually the norm for their program. And will take at least 30 years of firing a whole bunch of coaches before realizing the glory days are gone forever.
USC and Texas will eventually be back.

Miami could get back to being a 9-10 win program if the administration gets on board and because they have a lot of talent in the area. Top 20 recruiting class this year, but Diaz is pretty awful
USC - needs support from admin and a new coach
Texas - probably close to being good again and plays in a weak conference

And this was the type of scedule the Canes faced in the early .546 years. VMI, Boston U (not Boston College), Richmond, Marquette and Stetson, all in the same year.

Miami has university issues to deal with before they can get back to being a consistent top 10 program.
Same with USC, I heard they have something like $500 million in lawsuits against them...
