Not excusing what happened at Penn State and what ALLEGEDLY happened at Baylor, but those activities were outside of the conference and NCAA’s authority. Those were criminal proceedings and were handled as such.

No one is expecting them to criminally prosecute them for those crimes, but both instances the football programs were used as covers for the criminal activity and actively covered it up with program resources. How else do you define lack of institutional control if not that?

They would risk a class action lawsuit from every LSU athlete standing to make money playing games in the conference plus getting sued by ESPN for not obligating their football tv deal that the member institutions would be on the hook for. Sankey is not acting in the best interest of the conference and appears to have a vendetta for Kiffin and LSU bc he looked bad last week and got his feelings hurt. The conference and school are both in better shape with the partnership so hopefully cooler heads prevail. Would be something if they ended up voting to suspend Sankey after all of this.

The SEC will have to pay these players. Either enough to go away, or for violating their restraining order and they will get slapped with damages.

Very doubtful.
Remember we are pretending these players are random LSU students who haven't coordinated with LSU athletics to violate NCAA and SEC rules. Making the argument that they have a contract with LSU would expose the ruse and put LSU back in the hot seat.
Also the SEC has imposed no punishments on LSU to violate the order.
MAYBE they could sue LSU, depending on what Kiffin and the others on staff promised, but even that is unlikely. Ultimately LSU is the party who didn't accept them on the team and chose 2 others to fill the final roster, so any claims would be against LSU because that's the only party that had any obligations to the players or could be argued to owe a duty to the players.
The emotional reactions are just shifting and amplifying because LSU lost. You're projecting some sort of vengeance fantasy against the SEC.

How about North Carolina who engaged in an athletic program wide systematic academic cheating scandal where dozens of athletes were taking fake classes over and extended period of time. Did the ACC threaten to expel North Carolina? Hell, they won a basketball title in the midst of it. I would certainly think the conference might have some authority in that case? If they did they certainly didn't excercise it.

In that scenario, how would they have a cause of action against the SEC?
They're just random students with no association to LSU athletics. Like you or me in the early 00s.
Do you think we could have sued the SEC for Saban's roster decisions?
