that’s atrocious, and Harper was righteous in his anger. I generally don’t like the berating of officials in any sport because it’s literally decreasing the pool we have to choose from, but some frick like Angel needs to have moments and reactions like this over and over and over again. spare me the union bullshite, if the players collectively make a big enough stink, baseball will have to do something about it

Angel Hernandez is example numero uno why unions suck.

Unions don't protect good workers. Good workers will never have a problem finding a job. Unions protect shitty workers who are dead weight and should be fired.

I kind of think he's bad on purpose sometimes just because he's a piece of shite who likes antagonizing players who can't do anything about it.

Just watched the video.

Bryce showed more restraint than I would have. But he also doesn't want to get suspended going into the playoffs.

I have a theory. If the league was filled with nothing but young solid umps getting 99%+ of the calls right, people would be shocked when they got one wrong.

But with these old useless farts consistently blowing calls, people chalk it up to inept old umps.

Put these old useless umps in meaningful postseason games that maybe the league office wants to create a preferred outcome? People only tie the bad calls to the horrible old ump, not the league’s preferred outcome.

Why else does the league keep these terrible old umps around and put them in important postseason series year after year?

Because they gave the umpires union WAY too much power. Their internal reviews supposedly give an extra 3-4 inches of leeway off the plate in any direction.

By any meaningful metric, old umps like AH, Laz Diaz, Larry Vanover, etc, would easily be in the bottom half of all umps. Yet there they are year after year in LDS, LCS and World Series games. Why?

Home ump has no business appealing to third there. Was obvious Harper didn't break the plane even at full speed.

I’ve seen some pretty shitastic AH calls, but this one takes the cake. That was something personal there.

They need some sort of standard that an ump has to meet every year to keep working at the big league level. Have the union agree this.
