I know a lot of Dallas people who rooted for the astros in the WS. That city rivalry is fun but not really serious. As for the Texans, I've never met a Texans fan. Plenty of old Oilers fans are still around though.

texans fans are like aggie fans. they are little brother and fun to pick on, but they are our little brother and we will still stick up for them if necessary.

I guess the fans outside of the two metros would be the types to root for a Texas team to win no mater who they are. I’m pretty sure it’s a state pride thing. A championship in Texas is better than no championship at all.

The Cowboys fans I know give two shits about the Texans and the Saints bc they are not rivals.
Bingo. Texans fans have little brother syndrome. Cowboys fans are too busy hating Philly, Washington, and New York to care.

I grew up in Louisiana but always hated the Cowboys. They are a brand that most people either love or hate. I've always been curious about the Shreveport area and how Saints and Cowboys fans feel about either other over there.

I've lived in the Houston area for over 10 years now. I'm still far and away a Saints fan but root for the Texans also. Even though the Cowboys have been irrelevant for 20 years, I still dislike them. Jerry Jones makes it easy.

I used to pull for both the Rangers and Astros but now it's more of a true rivalry so that has changed.

I like the Rockets but am more of a fan of the NBA in general. I was definitely pulling for the Mavs when they upset the Heat. Although there were one or two series when I pulled for Lebron's team in later years.

From my experience, Shreveport is damn near 50/50. Probably more saints as of late due to their success. It’s probably historically more cowboys just due to proximity to DFW and amount of Texans who relocated to Shreveport over time. You can get to the DFW area in 2 hours from Shreveport. It takes roughly 5 and a half hours to get to Nola from Shreveport.

Do cowboys fans support the Houston team in the playoffs since they’re in the AFC and still a Texas team?

This isn't CFB. There's no SEC, SEC nonsense at the pro level.

Houston sports fans have a pretty large inferiority complex with regards to Dallas and there’s a lot of hate there.

Dallas sports fans are pretty indifferent. Personally I root for Houston when not playing Dallas.

I don’t think so. Rooting for a team in your state to win a championship when they aren’t your team doesn’t make you a loser. Of course that is if your team isn’t in the playoffs or had a bad year.

it's easier to pull for the other teams in your state if you had a bad year, bc then you don't have the pain of thinking you were almost there yourself

If the Texans make the Super Bowl you can bet that most Cowboy fans will be rooting against them. But under normal circumstances the Cowboys play in a division with decades of hate between all four teams, no time for the Texans. The Saints will never be anywhere near rival territory. In fact Cowboys fans would root for the Saints over most of the NFC and several AFC teams (Pittsburgh, New England, Houston for sure). Right now the Saints are genuinely liked by most fanbases excluding the NFC South because of how fun they are to watch plus the Katrina recovery storyline.

For baseball, no serious Rangers fan roots for Astros success. Full stop. State pride people are fine, but they are not die hard Ranger fans. It is the most underrated MLB rivalry.

NBA hate is there, but the Spurs own both franchises.

I am curious if Houston hockey fans like the Stars.

ETA: a Houston vs Philly/Washington/Giants Super Bowl would probably see most Cowboy fans rooting for Houston.

Rangers need to get good again, there were really only the two years where both were good at the same time. If there was a sustained period of battling for the division with some playoff series it would become a great rivalry

Yeah it sucks that the championship windows only brushed up against each other for a couple years but now that it’s a real dick measuring contest I feel both teams will be playoff contenders way more often than not. The 2015 and 2016 seasons were so much fun.

as long as the Stros stay good for say 5-7 years I think it will be inevitable. we're just not holding our end of the bargain up right now. and won't for a few more years. with the cyclical nature of baseball, its bound to match up sooner rather than later

I agree, I just hope it’s not at the tail end of our good run which is very possible. I would much rather be battling with them than Oakland or the Angels.

its like LSU fans who root for the SEC to win in playoffs when we arent in it

it shouldnt matter but being a local team to your area do garner "some" favoritism
