my problem with golf is that i hate practicing
i'd much prefer playing 18 holes over banging a couple of buckets of balls
i'm a 7 handicap, but i feel like i could be better if i tried.....i just dont have the work ethic
Pretty much describes myself. I just don't want to practice anymore, I think if my friends were better I would give a shite more. I played with a plus handicapper I was friends with on the junior tour many moons ago and that really helped with my focus (like a use to have) in real competition. I just don't play serious enough to really care about practicing, so hard to be consistently good with that mindset.

Back at LSU, I'd go two or three times a week to the LSU course and hit up the pitch and putt. Usually would stay for about an hour. The drop in my scoring coincided with increased work on my short game. Driving the ball 350 yds means nothing if you take 4 strokes to get it in the hole around the green.
I've reached a point in my life where I've developed a serviceable swing memory to where I can go out the few times I actually find time to play and enjoy my round. But I'll never get back to where I was in college without putting in work on the short game. I developed a whole new appreciation for professionals when I practiced a lot.

Clubs...yes
Balls ... no
In the 70s I played with my dad's Ben Hogan set with persimmon woods. They were made in the early 60s. I gave up golf for 25 years to concentrate on softball/baseball/tennis/running/weight lifting.
Then in 2000 I decided to take it up again and broke out the old Ben Hogan clubs. A clubhouse attendant said to me "Sir, you really shouldn't be playing with those clubs. They're antiques."
I played the round and then bought some new clubs and was amazed at how light metal drivers were. Put at least 30 extra yards on my shots instantly.

I haven't picked up a club in a year and I'm willing to bet by your videos you posted my swing speed is higher than yours.

I think the clubs will help some. But I would spend your coin towards a couple lessons. Once you improve your score to mid to low 90's then get some new clubs.

yes, they were great clubs in their day, but there are so many better and more forgiving options now a days
Disagree. Ping eye 2's are still very legit, even to this day.
I would take them over a lot of new stuff out there.
Some of the greatest irons ever made.

Blades.
The devil. So pretty. So enticing. But out of reach of my ability. But when struck correctly nothing smoother. I can only get that "click" with a blade about 5-10% of the time though.

Go with a 'low-spin' golf ball: Maxfli Noodle, Callaway Warbird, Taylormade Penta, Topflite Gamer...think $25 or less for a dozen.
Over sized clubs like Callaway Diablo or Razr X, Adams has some good clubs as well.
A good driver is Adams Redline or Speedline.
2-3 lessons.
Get the greatest book ever written on golf by the immortal Ben Hogan.

Focus on proper grip, stance, ball position, take-away, backswing, down swing, and follow-through.
The best AND easiest way to cut strokes off your score is good putting and chipping.

Wilson Staff Duo will outperform every ball in that range.

Twins' first trip to Pine Hills. They were 6. I went to putt, the cart went in the water.
