Jackson Generals
If they moved from Tennessee to New Orleans, the Braves in Jackson, MS could go into the north division and the South division would be all along the I-10...NOLA, Biloxi, Mobile, Pensacola and Jacksonville.

No. More families with ball playing kids in Metairie and it's easier access with cheap parking. I'm not dealing with the CBD for a minor league game.

This franchise was in trouble the moment Rob Couhig decided he just had to run for office and in so doing, sold his share of the ball club. He cared, he was in the ball park every night and worked hard to promote the club and baseball.

Then, the Hornets came to town.

That team is owned by the city. It’s costly, and the city has recently been exploring options, but their lease doesn’t run out until the end of 2020. There’s also 8 three-year options they can tack on, one at a time. That’s a possible 24 years.

For that team to move, you need a buyer who wants to take them to New Orleans.

They’re also currently affiliated with the Diamondbacks. That expires after the 2020 season. If not Arizona, then who? Houston isn’t an option. Who is NOLA’s other good bet for fan support?

Furthermore, as I’ve said many times, NOLA needs a new ballpark. The Shrine is too big for Double A. They’d be doing good to average 4,000. They may as well close the upper deck. Is that the kind of place you want to see your team occupying? frick no. Biloxi, Pensacola, Huntsville (area), Montgomery, Birmingham...all realized you need a good stadium. The Shrine is not gonna be great for Double A.

Disagree.

Like the Dome, it’s in a good location...just needs an overhaul. When was the last time it had any sort of renovation?

It was in a good location in 1997. Now, it’s just another neglected ballpark in the ‘burbs. I don’t mean neglected to say that it sucks, but it hasn’t been kept up with.

Minor league baseball has completely changed in that time span. Stadiums need all the bells and whistles nowadays. The Shrine is the 5th oldest ballpark in a league of 16.

One of the older ones is a temporary host in SA, Cheney Stadium in Tacoma was pretty much rebuilt as well.

Times have changed, but New Orleans baseball doesn’t want to change with...

What was wrong with the Zephyrs name? Baby Cakes was just retarded, although a lot of minor league teams names are stupid.

Hard to be relevant in such a football loved city. Pelicans and Saints are what NOLA focuses on. Nothing wrong with that. Just not a big baseball town.

If Jackson were to move, it wouldnt be to New Orleans. The president of the Southern League has already commented that New Orleans isnt in the Southern League footprint.

I really doubt Jackson moves. They are averaging over 1700 a game this year and thats not far off from Biloxi or Mississippi, and there really isnt anywhere else the could move in the states available. Tallahassee? Columbus GA? Macon GA? Savannah GA?

The team struggling is more about being affiliated with the Marlins than anything else, as they are a stingy arse team when it comes to their farm system (and major league team).

Versus the affiliation with the Astros, who have invested in their farm system and developing players, the Zephyrs really suffered with the switch. I have a close friend who was the head groundskeeper at the stadium and quit after the change because it was like pulling teeth to get money from the Marlins to do basic maintenance on the field and facilities, versus having a real budget to maintain a good field and team environment from the Astros.

And I like the Baby Cakes name, no one would have talked about Zephyrs baseball without the name change.

Well that's just stupid. It's a straight shot across I-10 from every South division team but one and 90 minutes west of Biloxi.

People forget...

1) When Zephyr Field opened, it was arguably the second nicest ballpark in all of the minors (AutoZone might be better). Some of the things built with the park (the swimming pool and hot tubs, the right field party area, etc) were unheard of in minor league parks at the time. That stadium was truly a trendsetter.

2) For several years in the late 90s / early 2000s, the Z's led the PCL in attendance. It was hot and humid back then too, and we had the Saints. They also won 2 PCL titles in 4 years.

3) The Pels season really doesn't mesh with the Cakes season.

4) This team hasn't been to playoffs since 2007

5) They have been with the Marlins for a decade, which a dumpster fire of a team / farm system

I agree that the team's troubles stated after Couhig left, but that's been a long, long time.

This has been awful to watch. The players and coaching area awful. The team ownership is cheap and won't promote anything. Because of both of those two things, the fans don't show up. Because the fans don't show up, the state doesn't care to fix up the stadium, because why spend money if no one is going to come to see the improvements?

A decent team, that marketed itself well, and played in a stadium with some upgrades, would do well in Metairie. They don't need a new stadium. They need some upgrades and they need an owner that gives a shite.

Theyre making lightning work on the new ballpark in Wichita. I dont see how it's not playable by opening day honestly.

That being said Im excited to have a team coming here but not excited that it's this one. You should see how theyre handling the naming of the team it's such a clown show.

Get ready for YOUR WICHITA HURRICANES!

I mean, I'm sure that area is known more for tornadoes. But hey sometimes a hurricane has a tornado with it, close enough!
