Sources: The #AZCardinals are making star WR DeAndre Hopkins the highest paid non-QB ever, giving him a 2-year contract extension worth $54.5M in new money -- $27.25M per year. Hopkins, who did the deal himself, gets $42.75M guaranteed at signing.

Good for him. The negotiation probably went something along the lines of....

Cards: Hey DeAndre. How much do you want to get paid?

DH: 27.25/yr. 42.75M guaranteed.

Cards: Done.

Might as well do it while Murray is on a rookie deal. The two year deal will come off of the books before the Cardinals have to think about extending Murray. That is a frickload of money for a WR but I actually think this could work out for Arizona.

Holy frick. We were going crazy like a couple of months ago about Michael Thomas getting 20 per year.

Going from Watson to Murray, I'd push for compensation as well.

I hope he at least had a good lawyer look at the contract otherwise he might get fricked in the end.

I think Kyler Murray is going to get him the ball plenty.

Big jump coming in year 2.

And this is why he was traded. Cardinals have Kyler on a rookie deal, so they have money to burn for the next two season.

I can’t be mad about that. Dude has been one of the best in the game and dealt with straight garbage tossing him the ball before Watson come along.

Cardinals will be good offensively, even with the smurf QBing.

This is probably why Bob traded him. Gotta pay your QB and LT first.

Still could've gotten a better pick.

makes you wonder sometimes how many of these guys really need agents. Many do obviously because they're idiots of a high degree, but shite if you can negotiate a deal like that and save the 5-10% to your agent, what's the point of bothering with one? I'd probably just have a entertainment lawyer on retainer to read the contract to make sure everything looks right than paying an agent on commission to negotiate back and forth for me.

I don’t mind a big long term deal..... if a player is worth it???? Do it.... it’s the TON of money that is guaranteed. That’s just stupid amount of money....... for a player who could blow out his knee and never be the same......
