Is this the most anticipated Freek GIF ever?

I am on the edge of my seat

Cuppy Cup already threw down his offering. Freek needs to bring his now.

According to this article, when he met her, looked into her eyes, and shook her hand, they were complete strangers to each other.

It seems every other media outlet piggybacked off this story and assumed it as true. What if his dad was just trolling? I don't think the information originally came from Te'o, although he did start to mention her a lot after her "death"

They fricking almost got away with it. It is a sad commentary on the state of journalism today that NO ONE checked for an obituary, death certificate, SSA record for 4 months. Pathetic

Perhaps with the real death of the grandmother, they saw an opportunity to couple the death of the girlfriend in with that, with the rationale being that since the grandmother death was real and easily verifiable, skeptics would be less likely to investigate the girlfriend death.

My position is starting to change. I think Manti Te'o was just a pretty big dumb arse in all this and we are dealing with the greatest Catfish of all-time.

Yeah, but to be honest, who the **** would even think to investigate the matter? It was the guy's personal life and the media seemed to be respecting his privacy - kind of nice for once. I did hear one journalist say he tried to look for an obituary just to find out more about what his girlfriend was like, but didn't see anything and just moved on...

It's totally crazy.

So, the MSB is much more efficient at collecting positive and rumored information than any news outlet.

Anyone that has read this whole thread care to bullet point the highlights.

Thanks!

I can't believe ND would go so out of their way to try and defend him like this. That press conference was very odd to me. They better hope he doesn't admit down the line somewhere that it was all a lie.

Agreed. If ND felt like they really needed to have a PC, Swarbrick would've been better off simply telling what story Manti gave him and leave it at that. Rambling about him being a victim and such a standup guy is just setting them up to look stupid.

Btw, I know ND fans can be delusional, but I was still amazed how many of them on IrishEnvy thought Swarbrick was brilliant tonight.

He should've listened to Dubya:

Good article discussing why reporters didn't check. LINK

"ESPN's Gene Wojciechowski, who voiced a five-minute video feature on Te'o's tragic losses, says he was unable to find Lennay Kekua's obituary or documentation of her car accident. He didn't follow up, though, because the Notre Dame player "said the family would prefer not to be contacted" and "at that moment, you simply think that you have to respect those wishes."

Plus, as it has been said, when the ND captain's girlfriend is a little obscure, maybe, you don't question her existence like you would if it was some pencil neck geek.

Manti and ND should both immediately plead the 5th on this whole situation and just not comment on it anymore. I'm serious. These attempts to explain it are sad and just make the situation worse.

My wife just asked a good question. Even if they had a long distance relationship wouldn't they have facetimed or video chatted? Just because you live in separate states doesn't mean you can't see each other. He is 100% lying.

A real journalist, not someone just trying to do a fluff piece, realizes that the lack of obit or record of car crash is something to be followed up, not just something to shrug off.

Anything is possible, but Te'o said the relationship lasted THREE years. He said they would have conversations at night for hours until falling asleep on the phone. Who has that much time to put on a hoax? That's not a hoax at that point. That would be 100% OBSESSION and would involve someone who needs to be locked up before they start their serial killing spree.
