And why not? It all seemed like such a great idea when they started it in the great Notre Dame publicity tradition -- Rudy, making Joe Theismann change the pronunciation of his name, Win one for the Gipper -- who cares if it's true as long as it's dramatic.
He (AD) figured it would work out this time just like every other time ND played the media like a violin but this time it's all blown up and he knows that those same reporters he thought he could bullshite forever are going to be doing nothing but laughing at him for the rest of his probably short career.
