She supposedly died on September 12 so I guess she shut up at that time. Then she called Manti on December 6 with a story about hiding from drug dealers.

But ND supposedly uncovered this during their rigorous investigation. I don't think anyone is covering for manti, just takin him at his word and regretting it more every minute.

I think I'm starting to lean this way. It explains all of the inconsistencies.
ETA: With that said, there's no way he just found out two days ago. He's known for a while and kept it up.

ND had all the facts to back Teo or they wouldn't have made the PC and supported him as strongly as they did. That was biggest hint this whole thing was a scam.
Although. Im sure deadspins anonymous "80% sure guy" will keep you anxiously waiting.

Right, but at what point was she not able to speak on the phone? The stories where she couldn't talk but he could hear her breathing get louder when he was on the phone with her? If she couldn't talk at some point just before her death how did they get in an argument the day she died?

Okay... I'm going to lay this out for you guys:
1. Manti had an online-only relationship with this girl.
2. He was embarassed about the stigma of online-only relationships, so he lied to people to make it seem like he has actually met her.
3. He continued the lie with the media, because people would judge him for having an online-only relationship.
4. This girl who was "dead" in September called him on the phone in December. He says WTF? Now he realizes something is fishy... not only because she isn't really dead, but the whole thing now just stinks.
5. He goes to ND in December to let them know she isn't really dead, and something fishy is going on.
6. He still thinks she's a real person, but just thinks something odd is going on.
7. The story comes out 2 days ago and he finds out she was never even a real person at all.

Even if this is true, wouldn't a sane person process this information and ask yourself, 'I probably shouldn't lie about meeting this girl and making up lies because they may come back to bite me in the arse'

Everything he told Thamel and the media was an embellishment. There's really no point going back through the original timeline. But unfortunately that still doesn't proove he know about it.
