Its gonna be Dusty.
Last Friday, after having already interviewed Gibbons, Showalter and Venables, Jim Crane indicated that he'd like to have a manager in place by February 3rd.
He interviewed Baker on Monday and then made these comments Tuesday night with an amendment to his timeline
So he wants a mature, experienced manager and bumped up his timeline to next week to finish the interviews he's already got scheduled for the rest of the week. Welcome to Houston Dusty.

quote:
Jim Crane’s managerial search seems to be moving quicker than his initial target date. The Astros owner said Tuesday he hopes to narrow a long list of candidates to “three, maybe four” finalists by Saturday before concluding the search next week.
quote:
I’m in the overnight business,” said Crane, the former shipping mogul. “We’re going to get it done early next week because we have to get to spring training. We want to have the team set and have some time to organize what they want to do and move forward.
quote:
Asked specifically about Baker, Crane said he’s “right at the top of the list.”
quote:
(I want) someone mature that can handle the group, someone that has a little bit of experience in some areas and, the other thing I think is key, is to give them a good support team,”
So he wants a mature, experienced manager and bumped up his timeline to next week to finish the interviews he's already got scheduled for the rest of the week. Welcome to Houston Dusty.

Lazy choice
But when you demote Reid Ryan to put your son in his place, nothing you do outside of paying the players makes a damn bit of difference anyway.
Hell, he could do worse than Baker. I wonder what becomes of Strom
Probably should have named him manager

Lol and, of course, before the GM
Plus an officially sanctioned apology tour
Lmao I guess it was worth 5 years of fun but this owner has made the organization a clownshow.

Got some info from someone who has been very reliable. Told me about the whole cheating thing a day before it broke if you recall. Anyways, this is the latest text I got...
“Yankees will also be investigated for sign stealing. Espada was involved while there and Crane won't take a risk on him”
Yeah, so this was a lie

I mean if we don’t hire Espada it won’t seem very wrong..

I respect Alleva more than Crane right now. That's how badly Crane has made himself look throughout all of this. Dude looks like a fricking pussy arse cuck right now. frick him.

I said these exact same words just a few months ago.
Man, was I wrong.
I think you will be wrong too.

I'm boycotting crane until he sells the team. He outcucked himself.

We should have a boo Crane game.

The apology is the dumbest shite I've ever heard of. It will only invite more vitriol and questions about individual players and will stoke the fire even more. The firings had a backward effect than he thought (even tho I'm glad lunhow and hinch are gone) they shouldn't have been fired for this crap. It opened up a shite box not only for him but for the league. What a dumbass.

I think everyone is making a mistake by tearing the Astros to shreds. It is going to put a massive chip on their shoulders.
It’s difficult for a team that has already won a World Series to find the motivation to do it again. All of the talk is going to ensure that the Astros are gonna go out every night with a vengeance and beat everyone down. They will have a focus and a purpose and a strong motivation that will guide and fuel them to prove everyone wrong. Can’t wait.

Hire banister now. He's the only one. Finally a leader who can do it HIS way and have that way actually work.

Yeah but with all the outside stuff removed, they fell behind other teams in the offseason.

That’s my general feel for 2020. I’m optimistic they will be glad and relieved to have the focus back to play on the field.
We won’t have the pitching necessary to be the prohibitive favorites like last season, but offensively, having Yed a full season in addition to a remotely possible healthy Correa, still have to be considered Division Champs.
I rewatched the 9th inning of Game 6 ALCS last night. Watching Chapman struggle with control, couldn’t throw a FB for a strike. Nothing but sliders. Had thrown Tuve a 2-0 slider for a strike and came back w same pitch out over the plate where he could extend.
But thank God he had a buzzer to inform him. Who knows what the Yankees could have accomplished otherwise.

First off, in baseball, so often it comes down to who is playing the best baseball at the right time. The Astros have the players.. it just comes down to execution. Look at the Nationals. They were playing their best ball at the right time and still nearly lost in the Wild Card. Then went on to win the World Series.
Secondly, the Astros have an incredible roster already. And people forget that they will add a pretty damn good pitcher in Lance McCullers that they didn’t have last season. They have a phenom DH who will only get better. They have a promising outfielder in Kyle Tucker who may make a leap forward. They have promising young pitchers like Jose Urquidy and Bryan Abreu and various other young pitchers who might step up. There is still one of the best prospects in all of baseball in Forrest Whitley getting closer to making a leap forward and entering the Big Leagues. And who knows which unknown guy will step up this year? It was Alvarez last season. And there is still the potential to upgrade through trades.
The Astros are just as in the mix as anyone. And one thing they will have that others don’t are the doubters fueling them throughout the season. They will have a hunger to win like they haven’t had since 2017.. and maybe not even then.

Agree. Idk what arms are likely to be available at the deadline but if they add a decent one this roster will be as formidable as any other they've had. Maybe Whitley takes a leap and that's not even necessary.

I don't either but I can tell you we won't be players in the trade market. Our farm system is in a pretty sorry state and with no 1st and 2nd round picks the next 2 years, it's not going to get much better. Whitley is our only top 100 prospect in the latest rankings. :
