Crane has dropped his usual "We tried" max offer to our core players. It's over.

That less than $1M more AAV than Chapman. It’s going to take more than that.

For that much let him walk. I know it's frustrating but don't pay guys just to pay them, that what losing organizations do.

That’s more than a fair offer

He can take it or leave it, and smart Astros fans will be correct in hoping he moves on

The Crawford Boxes Didn't Make Alex Bregman

Interesting stat analysis debunks some Bregman myths.

quote:

Over the course of his career, Bregman has no discernable home/road split whatsoever ...

Home: 94 HR, 13% K, .270 AVG, .846 OPS
Away: 97 HR, 14% K, .275 AVG, .850 OPS

Between free agency and the transfer portal, I’ve been training myself to not get attached to players on my teams in any sport.

I’ve always rooted for uniforms instead of individual players. It would be great to keep certain guys, but ultimately, all I care about is the guys wearing Astros uniforms win, whomever those guys are.

The club is already considering backup options if Bregman signs elsewhere. Among the players on the top of their list to play third base is Jorge Polanco, who would be looking for a rebound season. A switch-hitter coming off knee surgery, Polanco hit for a career-low .651 OPS in 118 games with the Mariners last season, but he posted a .724 OPS and hit 11 of his 16 homers in 63 games from July 9 through the end of the season

Why stick with just one Jeremy Pena when you can have two?

But have you seen the back of his baseball card for other seasons?!

Nolan Arenado has Jeff Bagwell darling written all over him.

Range has decreased in recent seasons
Bat speed has slowed in recent season
We'll need to overpay in prospects to get him
Aging former star with impressive years on the back of the baseball card

Our only point of light is he's owed a bunch of stupid money which we probably can't swing thanks to the last episode of Jim and Jeff's baseball comedy hour.

The Bregman offer is almost identical to what Matt Chapman took. Chapman and Bregs are almost the same player. Breggie should take the Astros offer. But I'm sure he won't.

The Dodgers are probably willing to defer $200 million into 2093 for him.

I’m fine with our offer and I’m fine if Bregs signs for someone else for a lot more

Polanco doesn’t get me excited so I really hope we could make Willy Adames happen

Well I just saw this about Adames which is more than we offered Bregs
quote:

According to MLB Trade Rumors, his projected market value is roughly $160 million over a five-year deal, translating to nearly $32 million annually

Depends on what you value most, but, Bregs has been a good bit better hitter and Chapman a good bit better defender
