Whitley? I still don't think he will ever make it to the bigs as an Astro.

If he does not get injured this season, he probably makes his MLB debut with us. Not that it means a whole lot.

I agree, but I am not expecting much.

Step 1: don't get injured

Step 2: when not injured, don't walk 30 per 9 inning.

ETA: my gosh I'm looking over his pro ststs and he hasn't exceeded 40 innings (2022 total) since 2019. His high in IP was 92 in 2017. In the 7 years since he was drafted he's pitched 237 innings with a 5.01 ERA.

Look here, a-hole. Forrest has it all figured out, if everyone would just LEAVE HIM ALONE.

His absolute best case is a reliever now. I suspect they give him a run as such this year if he manages to stay healthy. If he fails that’s probably the end for him with the Astros

Bregman - I think this one is going to happen easily. Bregman understands his brand, he is not going to allow it get "tarnished" like Correa did.

I hope you're right, but he'll be a FA in 2025 going into his age 31 season... he won't get another shot at a big deal. We're seeing guys like Bogaerts going under contract into their 40s. I don't share your optimism.

I have optimism about Bregman. Reagan's parents are in Katy. Albuquerque is an easy flight to Houston. He also talked a lot about what he wanted out of a deal when he signed his first extension. He said what he wanted was to be able to have enough to do the things (charitable and business) that he wanted to do. He could change how he feels, but he's definitely a baseball traditionalist and that might make him lean towards wanting to play in only one place like guys used to do.

I'm also not expecting much. I think he's had some bad luck, but some of his problems early in his career were 100% him. Maybe he's learned something by now, but I'm not giving him the benefit of the doubt. He doesn't deserve it at this point.

"In particular, one of the game’s most unique deliveries technically runs afoul of the rule. Astros right-hander Luis Garcia famously “rocks the baby,” swinging his arms and taking steps forward and backward before raising his leg and moving down the mound, mechanics he favors (and that he developed on his own) purely for their repeatability. Now, he will have to adjust or face being frequently called for an automatic ball."

There’s no way a 7 year old kid is going to win the between innings steal a base challenge this year

The rules implemented this season are a bit much.

The extra-inning rules.
The enforcement of the Balk Rules.
The pitch clock rules.
The bigger bases.

I can see some of them helping progress the game along.

The one rule that has me nodding my head in agreement though is:

When it is Game 6 of the World Series and your team is losing, when the NL HR Leader is up to the plate with 2 strikes and 2 outs, any half-assed attempt at a bunt by said HR Leader will be met with ridicule and mockery leading up to and including the next season's Game 6 World Series game.

This rule shall be known as the Kyle frickin Shwarber rule.

I hate that the extra-inning baserunners rule is going to be made permanent.

I feel like the extra-inning rule for the regular season is going to go the way of switching to the AL and having the DH in both leagues.

We won't have a problem with it for very long, especially if it remains only a regular season rule

I did not know this and I think that will play prominently in a future extension for Bregman

Bregman has consistency written all over him. His biggest issue is settling for great contact to all fields versus trying to force power to the pull side
