I dont discount MLBs frickery with the ball is a contributor here but both 2019 MVPs have fallen off a cliff after the sign stealing crackdown.

Yelich has a back issue that has messed with his swing and he may never get back to what he was.

From what I hear, a lot of bottoms end up with this ailment.

What really boggles my mind is smart people really believe that the Astros were the only team doing this.

I think more and more folks are coming around to admitting or atleast considering that this wasn't the case. If more eventually comes out about the Dodgers cheating the spin will shift towards the Astros being snitches and still deserving everything they got because of one player speaking out despite not being on the team anymore.

SOURCE: Framber Valdez could sign extension with Astros by Opening Day. According to a person close to the talks, he's looking for a contract of $150 million and up.

I’ve said 5 year 125 M

Seems like they could be creative to get him to 150, given his age and the fact that he’s been healthy outside of a fractured pinky on a comebacker

Anything over 5/$125 for a 29+ yr old framber will be a bit of an overpay. I wouldn’t hate it, but it is surprising that they may go that high.

I hope they pursue Tucker with the same attitude.

6/$150 wouldn't make me mad at all, but it's not my money.

Or get creative with options and incentives.

I wouldn’t say it would make me mad.

But they need $$$ room for:

Tucker
Altuve
Bregman
Pena
Bryan Reynolds
Whitley

The Astros and Framber Valdez have had no negotiations about a long-term extension, his agent said on Tuesday morning, calling a report of Valdez signing before opening day for at least $150 million "absolutely 100 percent made up information.” -

Tucker - As good as gone.
Altuve - They will make this happen. Tuve will be a life-long Astro.
Bregman - This one concerns me the most.
Pena - Won't even be a FA until year 6 of a potential 6-year Framber extension. Javier will also be 2028 and Yordan 2029... going to get dicey around then.
Bryan Reynolds - Abreu's money will come off the books the same time Reynolds will be a FA. Problem solved.
Whitley - Who?

Tucker - yes, I know.
Altuve - Yes, I know.
Bregman - I think this one is going to happen easily. Bregman understands his brand, he is not going to allow it get "tarnished" like Correa did.
Pena - yes, i know.
Reynolds -- I anticipate a trade and extension scenario sometime this season.
Whitley - your sarcasm meter is broken.

So we now have a pulse reading on that one. Not good, but not necessarily bad

100% agree with all this. Tucker has no intention of signing. He is waiting to be a free agent.

Whitley? I still don't think he will ever make it to the bigs as an Astro.

And Valdez...his agent came out and said the $150 million deal was 100% made up information, at least that's what Chandler Rome tweeted.

I hope you're right, but he'll be a FA in 2025 going into his age 31 season... he won't get another shot at a big deal. We're seeing guys like Bogaerts going under contract into their 40s. I don't share your optimism.

I haven't forgotten his name. We made a REAL mistake not moving him when his value was high.
