When asked about Trade Deadline, Keuchel said: "I'm not going to lie. Disappointment is a little bit of an understatement."

Not surprising, now he can go do his part to make it irrelevant

Didn't lance say they could bring a ring to Houston with the guys they have? Then he goes straight to the DL? So, which is it?

Goes to show you lunhow is not a legit gm. He's over his head. The players have balled out. He didn't get it done for them and I'm glad keuchel is being honest about it. I guarantee you he isn't the only one.

100% agree. We didn't do enough. Doesn't mean we cant win it all, but we didn't shore up the 2 biggest areas. A top end, preferably lefty reliever, and a top 2 starter. That way you have that guy starting a series game and you count on one of 2 of keuchel and McCullers coming back strong. Then you have the luxury of choosing whomever's pitching best out of Morton, fiers and mchugh to be your 3rd or 4th starter and you use the other 2 to bolster the bullpen, which has truly taken a dive lately.

That wasn't directed back at jwho. That was directed to the locker room. Lance may have given the party line by what he said yesterday, but keuchel comes out with what I and others think is the truth. The players weren't happy we didn't try to improve. And we may have tried, according to the Britton talk but that's why you don't wait till the last hour.

Could we still trade for Verlander and have Detroit eat part of the money? If so, would waivers allow other teams to grab him on the same conditions?

the waiver trade deadline works like this if im not mistaken

teams will officially put a player up to be claimed by any other team. teams will then put a claim in. the claim is then rewarded to only one team and is decided by what league the player is in and the overall record of the teams (preference given to the same league and team with the worse record). from there, there are only three options that can be taken. a trade to the claiming team, no trade, or the player is then released

so unless im mistaken, your scenario can not happen because im pretty sure the tigers would only be allowed to negotiate with the one team whom gets the claim

If he clears waivers then I think it's open negotiations.

If he is claimed, then I believe Detroit can negotiate with that team, stick them with his full remaining contract, or just hold him.

At least I think that's how it works.

@brianmctaggart
Astros have placed both RHP Michael Feliz (right shoulder discomfort) and LHP Tony Sipp (right calf soreness) on the 10-day DL Jankowski up.

if no one claims him after two days of him being put on waivers, then the tigers will have the ability to negotiate with anyone

They are going to think Luhnow stole a ring from them with his obsessive reverence for his orthodoxy.

They might be right.

Did he say what's really on the team's mind? Probably so.

Was it a good thing to say publicly? Probably not.

I'm gonna put it on "heat of the moment".
