This is the funniest part to me. This has Crane/Bagwell/Dusty written all over it.

Gilbert was the only piece outside of Brown or Yanier that was good enough to convince the Mets to do this. Cranes tight arse wasn't paying Verlanders contract.
This place would've melted if we had traded Francis Martes or Whitley at various points over the years.
You've gotta go for it now while Bregman, Altuve, Tucker, Framber are still here
We'll be on the edge of tanking when Gilbert/Clifford get to their primes

You got this part right at least.

That stings. Mets better be giving up some $$$ for this or we got royally screwed.

As far as the next 3 hours go
We still haven’t dealt Meyers/Julks/any of the AAA OF
We’ve gotta have another move coming. Bet one of them for a bullpen piece

Scherzer likely beats JV head to head
I would trust our lineup vs JV more than the other way around
And we gave up Gilbert and Clifford for that
I realize Chas made this a more acceptable loss, but we should have had better leverage.
Mets 1
Astros 0

Although none of it matters if we can go back to back.
But Verlander isn’t the piece to do that I don’t think

If no other moves this is just a shitty PR move. Amplifies how bigly they botched this offseason.

I think adding JV over Max gives us a better chance of winning the division
I’d rather Max start a playoff game over JV though

Scherzer has looked quite rough this year when I’ve watched
Neither is a number one in todays MLB. We have one of those already though he just needs to start pitching like it again

Agreed
And it's obviously all or nothing when you've been to 6 straight ALCS's

Yeah that’s why I’m confident in JV being better over the next 2 months
Posted on 8/1/23 at 2:16 pm to ShaneTheLegLechler
Yeah Framber has to get back to pitching like an ace or this is all a moot point and we totally fricked our future

Scouts following the Mets in recent weeks strongly believed that Scherzer’s stuff had declined more than Verlander’s, though one did not have to be a scout to observe that.

Current Max looks inferior to current JV.
And if JV only helps them win the division, that's like winning 2+ playoff games since it gets them out of the Wild Card and homefield advantage in the ALCS.
As for the last offseason, it was a total disaster. There's no denying that.

I'm just worried about what happens to bielak. I feel for this guy. He's given us all he has.

I’ve talked myself into being ok with this if:
The Mets are eating almost all of JV’s contract.
That money saved goes toward getting Tucker locked up now.
