Would love to see another quality Cocking tonight. Perhaps the rest of the boys can slam some dongs and give him some support

A legitimate sense of mystery shrouds Japanese star Shohei Otani, writes Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, as Major League scouts and general managers have no idea whether the 22-year-old phenom will actually enter the posting system and leap to Major League Baseball this offseason. Passan spoke to at least five general managers and multiple scouts for his extensive column, which I’d highly recommend reading in full.

Passan’s survey of big league front offices and scouting departments resulted in many within the game speculatively connecting the Rangers, Dodgers, Padres, Giants, Yankees, Cubs and Astros to Otani, although the clear takeaway is that no one really knows who the favorite would be.

I am still skeptical of Japanese starters. Darvish is the only one who has matched his hype really.

I bet you can scratch the Dodgers, Padres, Giants, and Cubs off the list.
He's going to want to DH when he's not pitching.

I really don't think a two way player will work but it would be fascinating to see

It's also one of those business decisions that would pay for itself over the years
Think of the support the Rockets got in Asia when they had Yao Ming

Didn't you see Aoki's cohort of photographers yesterday? We already got that Japanese market on lock. The Astros haven't been this interesting to Japan since Kaz Matsui's anal fissuers.

I don't think it would work for him to play in the field when he's not pitching, but I could see him taking a day off after each start, then DHing for a few games before starting again.
Too bad in MLB you can't DH for someone other than the pitcher.

Man how humiliating would that be for Jakey

Hideo Nomo was pretty good.

True. Iwakuma is alright but didn't come with all the fanfare

Tanaka has struggled this season so far, but he's been good for his first three. Iwakuma has been better than league average for his career.
Several Japanese releivers have had success, like Uehara, Hasegawa, Saito.
Irabu was a bust. Matsuzaka was mostly a bust.
Hit or miss, really... I guess the difference is that most are hyped up and come straight into the MLB level.

I'm not a Gattis fan boy but he needs more AB's

8 Aoki
9 Marisnick
Ugh.
I guess there's nothing really too wrong with giving George a rest day, but still.
