The biggest plus is that he and his wife do seem to sincerely want to stay with Houston.

This...I've been saying for over a year that Correa would stay and Springer would go. Everybody and their brother in Houston just seemed to think it would be the other way around. Springer doesn't even live here in the off season. He and Charlize always took off for the north every single time they could. They just aren't Texans.

Carlos and Daniella live here year around. She is a native Texan. He's Puerto Rican and there is fabulous Hispanic culture here in addition to everything else. He is showing every sign that he wants to stay. Everyone here and on Astros boards thought Daniella would want to be in NYC. I think she loves it here. That's cold and far away.

We need to pay the man.

That's just not true. While they did travel extensively, this was their primary home and they were often here in the off season. I know that because one of my best friends lived across the street a few houses down from them until they sold their house right after the season ended. Brantley has a house directly across the street from George that he lives in during the season, but he had it on the market toward the end of last season. Last I saw it still had a for sale sign out front, so he may be planning on keeping it for this season.

I think Alvarez is always hurt. His knees are bad.

Travel extensively...that means they were gone as much as here. Primary home here for tax purposes. Her social media posts pretty much always had them somewhere else...meeting friends in NYC, hiking, etc in Conn or upstate NYC somewhere.

All I'm saying is her social media doesn't look like she lived in Houston.

I didn't say I expect he'll be any good, just that they intend to give him his shot. Whitley's outcomes range from Hall of Famer to useless headcase with the latter seeming more likely.

Some comments he's made about being stubborn have been troubling to say the least.

I read the full article and it wasn’t as bad as I first thought. I don’t know, anything Whitley provides at this point is a bonus to me. I feel like there’s a 5% chance he’s a front line ace and a 50% chance he’s on somebody else’s roster in a couple years.

He definitely has a chip on his shoulder if you read the whole thing and the fact he dropped a bunch of weight during the lockdown has to be encouraging from a work ethic standpoint.

Or his weight loss is directly proportional to his Vyvanse use. LOL

McCullers Jr.: "Houston is where I want to be. This is my home... I undoubtedly want to be here well into the future, but the real question is 'Do the Astros see me as part of their future?'

"Legitimate big-league starters don't grow on trees. I am a legitimate big-league starter ,and I've worked pretty hard to get to this point."

I have no idea what to make of Lance on the open market. At his best, he has nasty stuff but he's often battling himself to get to that point. There's usually a host of nagging injuries that cause him to miss time. At this point 6 years into his career, his high in innings is 128...which he followed up with TJ surgery.

I mean, what do you pay for such an inconsistent guy? If you could trust him to eat innings, he'd have a nice floor. But you can't.

I like Lance but any sort of long term commitment would scare me with his history. Zero reason to do it right now too unless it’s extremely team friendly

Is Tijuan Walker a fair comp? Similar age, limited by injuries (though Walkers injury list is longer. Walker got 2 years $20 million from the Mets with a 3rd year for $6.5 million (incentives could push it to 8.5) or a $3 million buyout. So best case for him its 3 years $28.5 million.

Lance's injury history hasn't been as severe or as debilitating as Walkers but the concerns still exist. This season should be a pretty important barometer for him. I could see something like 4 years $60-80 million. That's anywhere from 15 to 20 million a year. Is he worth that? At his best, probably so. If he's inconsistent and oft injured no.

Agree on both and in addition, he gets rattled too easily for me. When he’s on as in the ALCS game 7 in relief, he’s almost unhittable. But then Game 7 in the 2017 WS comes to mind. Hit almost as many batters as he got outs. Just comes unraveled. I didn’t like the Arizona roof incident last year either. Reeks of excuses.

The way the game is now, HRs are going to happen even when you’re cruising...see JV. You just have to plod through it like he does. I don’t see the same mentality in LMJ.
