He was with Click when he had his two decent years in ‘16 and ‘17

Low risk medium reward signing. Hopefully the further out he is from his injury the better off he will be. Ideally this isn’t the last outfield piece added, but it’s an attempt to add some legit MLB depth if he’s able to make the roster out of camp.

I know almost all of you agree, but I'm worried about putting Straw in CF.

Yea If Straw were an elite defender I think I’d be more comfortable/okay with it, but for as fast as he is his routes to balls leave a lot to be desired.

It just feels like he’s overmatched every time he steps up to the plate

He is going to get between 7-9m, Astros will totally be in play for him....

There isn't much left in the OF market now that Rosario, Joc, and Gardner are off the table. Unless they kicking the tires on Braun (more 1B/DH) Maybin, Mazara, Ozuna, or Puig

They will sign someone, JBJ seems to most logical fit and in the budget

No they won’t. They also aren’t signing any of the other guys you mentioned except possibly Maybin

They don’t need another corner OF, 1B or DH. They aren’t going into the luxury tax

210 is the number to avoid and according to spotrac the Astros 164m committed to next year

Plus JBJ is a CF so a position of need and he was projected for 9m at the start of FA and with Rosario at 8m he will be close to that.

It just makes too much sense

Spotrac is either wrong or not counting arbitration. They’re probably somewhere between 195-200 right now depending how arbitration goes

Probably closer to 190-195 so room to add someone but not Ozuna obviously

If you want zero ability to make an in season transaction sure. If Jackie Bradley Jr signs somewhere besides Houston will you stop shitposting nonsense in our threads

I could see them signing Jake still, maybe Pillar. I think they’ll add at least some cheap CF competition

Shitposting

He is a legitimate player the Astros are probably looking at and at the beginning of this thread one many of y'all agreed with it seems

Don't become like Braves threads where you whine and RA for every opposite opinion that doesn't fall in line with the group think.

It’s more that you have no idea what you’re talking about. But that’s fine, I’ll go back to ignoring you

Can we please bring Jake back? If we are going to have a bad bar in the lineup, at least we’ll get the elite defense he brings.

This is my line of thinking. Put him at the bottom of the lineup. His power/defense are enough to fill out this lineup.

Jake Kaplan with the DAT group think. Smh.

Yet this is the direction Houston seems to be headed after last week’s deal to bring back a soon-to-be 34-year-old Michael Brantley for two years and $32 million. Possible center fielder upgrades remain available, namely free agent Jackie Bradley Jr. But after paying the competitive balance tax in 2020, the Astros are likely to treat the $210-million threshold as a de facto salary cap in 2021.

While team officials haven’t definitively stated as much publicly, this reality is relatively obvious. According to Roster Resource, the Astros project to have a CBT payroll of about $199 million. That number will rise north of $200 million if Carlos Correa beats them in his upcoming arbitration case. They’ll likely want to save at least $5 million for in-season acquisitions.

The Myles Baw fan club starts right here. Yall are totally underestimating him. Think of everything he brings to the table...

He's fast
