Not as sure... I wouldn't be surprised if he takes it given then 2020-21 market.

I think if the Astros roster indicated they would be a playoff favorite in a 162 game season next year, Brantley would've received a QO. Simple fact is, the team does not look like a strong enough roster without Springer and JV over a long season. So throwing money at Brantley isn't a smart play.

I expect he'll sign a 2 year deal with an option, for about $12-$14 per year.

The market will be flat this year.

I expect we'll offer Brantly something like 3 years/$40M, he'll want more like 4/$60... they settle somewhere in the middle with that 4th year as an option.

No chance IMO

Also no chance he’s getting 4 years from anyone. I would be pretty surprised if Brantley is back

No way the Astros will take a chance of paying him that much at 38 yrs old. Not with his injury history.

Despite the "Uncle Mike" nickname he's only 33... just 2.5 years older than Springer. He's actually younger than Reddick.

I bet he ends up getting 4 to 5 somewhere.

They'd have to make it a 5-year deal to be paying him at 38 years old. Brantley isn't THAT old.

In the market that was 3 to 5 years ago -- I would agree.

Coming off a covid-reduced 60 game bullshite season, and the unknown what-ifs for next season and beyond...

This market will be flat.

Next year will be his age 34 year season. That's old, for this market.

ETA: for some reason, I thought he was already 35/36.

Correct.

So, age 34, 35, 36, and 37 seasons on a 4-year deal.

2 yrs at 30 is his true value, and he's worth it

Remember, 4 yrs ago, nobody flinched at Reddick for 52 M

Paying 30 M for 2 years of Brantley production is a steal

This market may give a discount, but it wasn't worth taking that chance.

His production is essential to next year's team, unless you're planning on outbidding for Springer

Ain't no way Brantley is getting 4-5 years. He'd be lucky if he gets 3. I see him probably getting a 2 year deal, whether from us or any other team.

Didn’t see it mentioned that we exercised Brooks Raley’s $2m option

Having Yordan complicates signing Brantley a little because you can't give him as many half days at DH. Moving Tucker to RF also makes for a weaker defense. I'm still all over it if it's 2 for 30 or something like that, but I could see why they might want to go younger and more athletic in the open corner spot.

Well, obviously all of it depends on whether they legitimately intend to make a run at Springer

Without Springer, they have to acquire a CF

No way they can pencil Yed into a full time LF, so when you sign Brantley, you have filled LF and DH with incredible production for the price of Brantley alone.
