I remember him raking shite around in the CWS when he was at Indiana.

Tyler White to give Reed days off versus tough lefties and as a backup catcher. Gimme.

Im not buying the risky timetable for renovations. I think k they want to wait one more year to see how much sales go up. They could at least move the stupid fence in this season and do the rest next year.

It seems kind of weird to all of a sudden announce its not going to happen. We were in contention for playoff games all season. It wasn't a surprise.
But I suppose I could see where construction needs to have a concrete start date and an estimated time of completion. With us being alive in the post season, you can't rule out a World Series run that would delay construction until as late as November 8th. At that point you've got maybe 3.5 months to get it done.

DAT has already crowned Reed and White, but next year all of Houston will crown their arse

Yet having him in the lineup instead of Gonez is not a significant drop off.
This is incredibly false, holy shite.

DAT is correct. Those two will hit and reach base a lot.

Billy Witz of the New York Times profiles Astros outfielder Colby Rasmus, who enjoyed a monstrous postseason performance and will soon return to the free agenct market. Witz notes that Rasmus, whom he describes as a “free spirit,” struggled to adapt to life in a veteran-filled Cardinals clubhouse as a rookie and had difficulty adjusting to the culture in Toronto. The Georgia-born Rasmus, though, has thrived in a return to the South and in a lower-key Astros clubhouse. “I’d say this has been the best place for me,” said Rasmus. “The environment’s been good — a lot of young guys with a lot of life to them, and not a lot of big egos in the room. I just like to play baseball. I don’t like having too many people put their pressure down on me. I just like to play. That’s helped me.” Witz notes that Houston GM Jeff Luhnow drafted Rasmus when he was the scouting director in St. Louis. Luhnow explained that he always thought Rasmus would be able to thrive in the right environment,

Colby is a curious case. Do we prefer him in a semi-platoon role over a better overall big money bat?
Posted on 10/15/15 at 6:40 pm to Jwho77
I believe we keep rasmus and not go for a big time bat, unless colby is asking for big time money but me thinks he wants to be an Astro.

Chron posted an article that says Luhnow and Hinch are inviting all coaches to return. Nothing unexpected. You're probably not going to fire coaches on a team that unexpectedly made the playoffs.
I kind of wanted to see a Hudgens replacement though. He wasn't highly regarded after being fired by the Mets last year. Maybe our guys just are who they are and there's not much changing them. But it doesn't seem like there was much of a plate approach for any of our batters. Rarely worked the count, rarely went the other way, struggled with RISP.

At this stage hitting coaches spend most of there time on mental aspect. That includes approaches. Our plate approach sucked at times.

Absolutely wrong. Like, completely wrong.
Hitting coach spends a tremendous amount of time reviewing video for small mechanic changes and setting up each at bat strategy of upcoming pitching matchups.

Wrong. A player knows his swing at this stage. The hitting coach will give advice during a slump, but isn't actively working on a swing that a hitter likes.I'm not guessing I know this for a fact. He spends at least 75 percent of his time talking approach. My uncle played at lsu, played professional baseball and we regularly talk about how silly a hitting coaches job is the majority of the time. Hitting coach is more of a mental coach most of the time. I believe someone who played professional baseball over you. I ain't gonna get into a debate with you. I have a feeling you are the type of person who won't listen to reason and won't listen to first hand knowledge...meaning you arnt worth the debate.

Fair enough. You have your uncle for a source.
I have an actual hitting coach for a source with a current AAA team.
assume what you want about me. I don't lie and I admit when I am wrong. My post history on here should lend credence to this point.
I don't know when your uncle was in the game. But I can tell you what a current AAA hitting coach who has worked at the major league level has told me.
I will even add that the hitting coach role is actually so demanding with breaking down video now that most major league teams have an assistant hitting coach to help out. Something that really started happening in the last 10 years or so.

Well you believe your source because you know him. I believe mine because I know him. The truth is probably somewhere in between of what we are both saying.

Actually, was thinking about this and read your post again. You use the word "approach". What do you mean by that? We are probably talking about the same thing?

Rarely worked the count
The Astros saw the 8th most pitches per plate appearance at 3.86. League average is 3.82. Cubs (only team to strike out more than astros) led at 3.97 and Marlins were last at 3.70.
Astros had 10th highest walk rate at 8%.
The Astros did work counts. It appeared they changed approach against the Royals. But that is likely because the Royals have a historically great bullpen, particularly with Wade and Herrera. In that situation, hunt early fastballs because running up a pitch count has less value, especially with so many extra off days.
