But it's left field. That's not hard to fill, especially a team that plays half of its games with the Crawford Boxes. A name in the system to watch there is Jon Kemmer in 2017, by the way.
That said, you want to win now. If adding another OF bat while trading an affordable Gomez to a team who needs a CF to improve the rotation can happen, you look into it closely. I'm sure Luhnow is doing just that.

For maybe the first time, I agree with Lester. I don't want Cespedes. I think his 2015 was an aberration. It's out of line with his other 3 years in the majors.
From 2012-2014 his line was .263/.316 24HR 89RBI 38 walks 122 strikeouts. He's 30 years old and on the downside of his prime years. I don't think our lineup is really lacking a low average, low walk high strikeout home run hitter. We've got plenty of those types and they aren't costing over 20 million a year.

Gomez is a Kobe type guy. Exceptional athlete. But he's simply their to promote himself. I think he will kill the dugout and clubhouse if he stays.
IMO he's the opposite he integrated to the team seemingly day one and even at his lowest point last season he seemed to legitimately be having fun and cheering on his teammates.
He's a very polarizing guy because he is very outspoken but he seemed very team oriented to me.

Everything I've read from guys who played with him has said that he's a great teammate and misunderstood. I think he's just really emotional and loses control sometimes.

Gomez can be a bit of a douche and a hot head. I'll say that I loved the energy that he brought to the team. Dude is a fiery guy really unlike anyone else on the team.

I don't either. I like the OF they hAve now.
The only reason he's being mentioned is because I think they're dangling Gomez for a SP

Again - IF they can bring in a #1 or #2 type guy by swapping Gomez with Ces -- go for it. Otherwise, I don't like the idea of spending the money for Ces when his value add isn't worth the spend rate.
As for 2015 being an aberration -- it definitely is, until he can reproduce it. I think the things that scouts are looking at is the fact that Cespedes performed well after he went to the Mets -- that lineup was a black hole before he got there. It's not like they penciled him in between Pujols and Trout.
All that said... I'm still on the Marisnick bandwagon until the wheels fall off.

I'm starting to grow tired of Drellich. Go check out his twitter feed and latest articles. The guy has gone on a crusade to paint the Astros as cheap and totally unwilling to spend. It's weird. When and for who were the Astros supposed to spend gobs of money?? This year is the first year in sometime that we enter the season with some level of competitive expectations.
Also as I recall, the Astros reportedly outbid the Yankees last year for one of the top relievers on the market in Andrew Miller but he turned it down. Drellich seems to be hell bent on the team dishing out $150-200 million contracts just for the sake of spending money. He's become a bigger troll than Ortiz.

He is a bitch and troll.
Also, Upton to Tigers for over $22M AAV for 6 years with opt out after two seasons. Assuming Cespedes gets around that AAV, no thanks.

We've found Ryno's true identity

I've been reading those and it honestly surprised the hell out of me. I used to really enjoy Drellich's writing but he has been incredibly obnoxious and borderline irrational as of late

I don't read his stuff anymore. It's like he's pissed they're good, he's picked an odd time to start questioning the front office. I don't remember him being so critical when they were still rebuilding

Drellich and Brian smith are the only two people I trust covering the Astros. They aren't public relations arms for the club like the other clowns. They actually question the front office...that is a good thing.
I don't think anyone who knows thinks he is advocating 150 million payroll just because...he is correct that our payroll doesn't reflect our market position and it shows we aren't doing absolutely everything possible to win a title.
God bless Evan D and Brian T.

Drellich is a bit douchey and seems to be looking for the controversial tweets lately. Maybe offseason clicks or he's going by the 'negative news gets the attention' rule.
Overall I think he is okay for a follow for news.
