Supposedly Babe Reed lost 25 pounds over the off season (which still puts him at a rotund 6'4 250). Hinch said he assured AJ he'll have a chance to make the team out of spring training with Yuli suspended and a chance to contribute in 2018.

With a few adjustments, I think Gattis will do less catching and more DH meaning we'll carry Stassi. Also, Martes goes to Fresno to work on consistency as a starter. Tony Sipp gets one last shot out of camp. He'll be replaced by Boshers quickly if the struggles continue.

I don’t want Stassi in our lineup. Significantly weakens it imo

Wasn’t Gose a rule 5 pick?

He’ll make the roster out of camp, not sure how long he’ll stick

Hunch's fat shaming of Reed and Martes may make their careers.

He's a backup catcher. Gattis will still do some catching but his bat is better than being limited to the backup catcher role as he was last year. Gattis should play more.

If Gattis plays more DH, it leaves us without a backup catcher on the bench. In situations where McCann were injured, we would otherwise have to sacrifice the DH to move Gattis to catcher. Also, it gives us the flexibility to pinch run for McCann with Fisher or Marisnick and have Stassi available to come in at C.

He was. He has to be carried on the 25 man all year or be offered back to the Rangers+$50,000. If they don't want him, we can work out a trade for him.

It's intriguing that he throws 100 as a lefty and apparently has a decent curve but he's got 10.2 innings as a professional pitcher. He was quite wild in those 10.2 innings. He needs more time to polish his skills.

I can't see him making the roster out of camp unless he just lights it up and and walks very very few. If Gose makes it, I would assume that Sipp would be the roster casualty. Are Luhnow and Hinch going to roll with such a wild card as their only bullpen lefty?

Yeah I think they’re trying to see up close if Gose is worth swinging a trade for to keep permanently in the system. I don’t think he will make the team out of camp

"Anthony Gose and Jake Marisnick have the strongest, most intriguing arms in the MLB"

And I don't think we would be able to do that. What's in it for the Rangers? They already have the advantage of being able to stash him in the minors and let him develop. The trade return for a guy that's pitched all of 10 innings won't be strong. So if the rival Astros decide he's worth developing in the minors, the Rangers are likely to place such a valuation on him as well and just stash him in their system.

The Rays might part with Chris Archer for a 20 and a couple of Nolan Ryan Texas Beef ribeyes at this point.

Real talk I'd consider a package including McCullers+Tucker for him.

What's wrong with it? I like Lance but I'm not particularly attached to him. Dudes made of glass (don't tell the Rays). Give me 200 innings of Archer over 120 innings of Mccullers

Verlander
Keuchel
Archer
Cole
Morton

Just give us the trophy.

Agree. He will either go bullpen or keep being a DL regular.

I’m pretty sure you could get Archer for Tucker + others and not have to give up Lance

I agree I’m concerned about his health long term, but I love the fire he brings and love his potential as a closer if being a starter doesn’t work out

Lance and Bregs are the core of this teams swag and shite talking

And yeah...that rotation would be unbelievable but it wouldn’t improve the weakest part of our team which is the bullpen. We’re either going to need a big season out of Smith/Rondon, other’s to bounce back into form, or make a big trade this summer for a reliable piece cause that’s the biggest roadblock to repeating IMO

Yeah we could pull it off with a rich prospect package. But keep in mind, Archer is controlled for 2018 and 2019 plus team options at $9MM and $11MM for 2020 and 2021. It'll take a big prospect haul.

My thinking on Lance is that he becomes a little bit expendable if he's displaced from the rotation. Could he help offset the prospect cost or are the Rays tanking so hard that a 24 year old already in the majors is useless to them? This is all hypothetical of course as I don't actually think it'll happen. But Archer is basically the last man standing in Tampa and he'll certainly be traded this season.
