But I'm not going to be participating. I'm telling you that right now. And you can put that in there," Lillard told Yahoo Sports on Tuesday morning via phone

But it's not like sitting down players when you're out of the playoff race is a new thing.

By his logic teams should just cancel the rest of their seasons once they are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, which happens to tons of teams every year with huge portions of the season left.

Definitely agree with him on this. It makes no sense for bottom of the barrel teams to play anymore

that does happen moron. What do you think the Warriors have been doing all season?

If they come back to play 5 games, and the Pels actually play BI and Zion, I would be pissed at their stupid decision making. I could care less if the NBA wants the Pels to play Zion. From a Pelicans business decision, it would be stupid to play him in those games with a very very low chance of making the playoffs, and it would be stupid for BI to play from a business decision, given he's looking to sign a max contract this offseason.

Lillard, McCollum, Zion, BI, DeRozan, Aldridge, none of those guys are practicing for 5 weeks and playing 5 meaningless games with little chance to make the playoffs.

Either have a play in tournament with these bubble teams, or just start the playoffs immediately when you come back.

The Blazers are one of the teams that got completely fricked by a front loaded schedule. So I’m all for Dame making a stand against the NBAs bullshite.

Pretty sure the dry run games before playoffs are more about filling the TV contracts obligations and getting players back in game shape

Just going straight to the playoffs seems like a recipe for disaster

I understand his position if I was the Pelicans I wouldn’t even dress Zion. They have to get to 70 games for contractual reasons but I don’t see it as much different than normal, I mean don’t teams that are out of it shut guys down?

So witty and original! Guy literally has an opinion on his job and he can't voice that either, nice.

It's an incredibly dumb idea to have teams with no chance go through all this to start back up for 5 meaningless games. He's right.

He has interesting definition of showing up for work.

I mean I’m not for tanking but he has a point considering how screwed up everything got with the shutdown and all, I wouldn’t blame him if he elected to execute this and it helps his team get a lottery pick

Big difference between tanking and not playing.

If you don't play, no ticket sales, no tv broadcasts, no jobs for guys at the arena, etc.

They signed a contract to play games. NBA games are about far more than just "winning a title" from a business perspective.

These jackasses get paid millions of dollars to play games, and they don't even want to do that much apparently.

He should be able to sit. And he shouldn’t get paid. Whereas players whose teams sit them to protect them SHOULD get paid.
