Yep. It makes no sense to bring back teams that have no real shot at the playoffs. Either go with a play in tourney or just take the existing 16 teams and let them have a few exhibition games against each other before starting the post season.

This. All he's doing is verbalizing what teams do.
Lillard is about to turn 30. There's no reason the Blazers should risk losing a year of his prime over 5 games where they're mathmatically eliminated.

By his logic teams should just cancel the rest of their seasons once they are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, which happens to tons of teams every year with huge portions of the season left.
Which isn’t the same as every year, because season ticket holders aren’t going to these proposed games at Disney World.

All basketball is meaningless. Life is meaningless.
Posted on 5/26/20 at 5:49 pm to QJenk
I mean, why would bad teams ever bother playing when they know they won’t make the playoffs?
Oh yeah, because they signed a contract and they want to get paid.

I mean they’ll probably tank and their top players will provide the minimum effort to basically circumvent the system but generally the logic at this point is to obtain a good lottery pick, unfortunately for guys like Dame and all them this isn’t exactly a loaded draft class

play-in tourney with zion would be a dream if marketed correctly
not sure what is holding the league back from just making this a reality.

yea, true. guess its pretty complicated considering the amount of teams who are technically still mathematically alive for the playoffs

That's based off 82 games, though. With 5 games, there are only 4 teams alive and all of them essentially need the Griz to lose every game.

yea, true. guess its pretty complicated considering the amount of teams who are technically still mathematically alive for the playoffs
So we give every team 5 more games at minimum. That would put Dallas and Atlanta at 72.
To get every other team to 72, 34 additional games would have to be scheduled. In that timeframe where the Mavs and Hawks play 5, the Lakers and Spurs would have to play 9. And then you’re still missing 10 games for each team, so the opportunity to get in the playoffs still has to be expanded
The fundamental question is how much should the games from October to March matter?

Would be as intense and marketable as Game 7 of a high-stakes playoff game, I am IN immediately

I don't understand this thread or the appreciation this dude is getting. His team has sucked most of the year and now he wants to quit. Why is that a good thing and why would fans support it?

Would you want your team's best player to risk being injured for 5 meaningless games after a 4 month gap in the season and then miss the entire next year with a shortened offseason?
This is extraordinary circumstances that isn't the same as the typical end of season meaningless games.

Are the players really that fragile? If a guy is going to get hurt, he is going to get hurt. He can get hurt at home, at the club or at the beach. You can't protect them forever. If they are healthy, they should play. I have never been for resting or sitting stars, unless it is to punish them and to take money away.
I don't know how this mindset won out. Guys used to be admired for playing every game and as many minutes as they could. They would tough out bumps, bruises and injuries. Now they get to sit for no reason. I just don't get why it is a good thing..

John Wall, maybe.
Kevin Durant wouldn't have popped his achilles if he hadn't have rushed back from the partial tear.

Because when you can't make the playoffs this year, it's far better to do what you can to guarantee a healthy Lillard going forward.
The Blazers have franchise money invested in him. It's just not smart to risk jeopardizing an investment of over 100 million on a game that can't get you into the playoffs.
And it's always been like that. Heck, you saw Krause and Reinsdorf want to slow MJ's recovery from the broken foot and that was 1986.

Durant got hurt bc kerr was playing him 42 minutes a night. vs any opponent but HOU GSW waltzes thru the finals and KD doesn’t get hurt. Kerr had to play Kevin that many minutes for them to get thru.
