Pretty easy to say he’s one of the best of his generation
pretty much the definition of a HOFer.

Andruw was better than Betts

So we’re going to also eliminate the other year Jones had played through age 29 in this hypothetical?
Two years really
Two years really

do you not think its more fair to compare players through the same number of years theyve played as oppose to age when players make the majors at different points?

people get too worked up about cumulative numbers when it comes to who should be a HOFer. I don't care how many HRs or wins collected in a players career, if the Player was dominate in the period of time he played, that if what makes the player a HOFer, Not a stat collector. The Halls are getting too cluttered with "good" players who hit curtain stat plateaus.

Not really, which is the whole point of this. Longevity matters with the Hall of Fame along with the peak and Andruw was up earlier and had accomplished more to that point in my opinion. His drop off post age 30 is why he’s struggled to get traction.

quote:agreed. andruw jones will never make the HOF, but his peak was absolutely HOF worthy. id vote for him if i had a vote

Andruw is still probably the most interesting case to me, and I think he should get in. I don’t think he will unfortunately

quote:why should we compare the accomplishments someone has made over 11 seasons to someone who hasnt even finished his 9th? andruw grew up outside of the US and had the ability to be signed as a p year old. mookie had to finish high school. he had a multi year head start on his professional career. also, i think mookies accomplishments compare pretty well. mvp, 2 time world series champion, 6 time all star, 4 time silver slugger, 5 time gold glove
Not really
quote:it absolutely is. i disagree with it, but it is why he will never make it

as stated before, i was speaking in hyperbole to make a point when i was getting well actuallyed over HOF eligibility rules. mookie obviously cannot have the same drop to get in even if i personally dont think it should matter as much as it does.

So you think all Hall of Fame cases should be normalized to a single arbitrary career length? Why?

Juan Soto and Sandy Alcantara

I doubt Wainwright gets in.

quote:what are you talking about. In specifically comparing mookies current career to Andruw's, i simply believe its a more fair comparison to compare them on similar seasons as opposed to ages. Thats all. I dont see how thats crazy
So you think all Hall of Fame cases should be normalized to a single arbitrary career length
And again, I would have no issue voting for Andruw to make the HOF. I am not saying Andruw shouldnt be in the HOF and mookie should. I simply think at comparable points in their career, mookie has been better. I also would have no issue voting for both

I don’t see how this makes any sense when comparing a hall of fame case which is what this entire thread is about

And i dont see where ive said mookie should be in and andruw shouldnt. I think this is now the 4th time Ive said i would vote for Andruw
Posted on 8/12/22 at 10:54 pm to WestCoastAg
Did I accuse you of this?
Posted on 8/12/22 at 10:57 pm to ShaneTheLegLechler
Well I have no idea what the hell you are talking about. You said andruw was better than mookie. I said I think mookie has been better at the same point in times of their career. I have absolutely no idea how mookie will play over the next two years. I have absolutely no problem changing my opinion when/if that time comes
