Pitching staff seems snake bitten and they’re still doing this. If they can get everyone healthy in the second half they’ll be a legit contender. Never seen a run of injuries and bad luck like this across a whole group.

Wonder if any team has had 3 straight walkoffs ending with a hit, an error and a bases loaded BB before.

I'm afraid the injuries are going to catch up to them. Of course, I thought that was the case last night having to use Martin in a save opportunity and they somehow pulled it out.

Loving this run, but also feeling strongly that they will rue the day they signed PCA to that deal.

The guy has had one decent half season, and it was not the most recent half. Hope I'm wrong.

What the Chicago Cubs just did is extremely rare — and it may actually be the first time in MLB history that a team has had three consecutive walk-off wins ending specifically with:

a walk-off hit
a walk-off error
a walk-off bases-loaded walk

…in back-to-back-to-back games.

The three Cubs wins over the Cincinnati Reds were:

Game 1 — walk-off on an error
Game 2 — walk-off hit by Michael Busch
Game 3 — walk-off bases-loaded walk to Busch

MLB coverage has heavily emphasized the “three straight walk-offs” part, but no source I could find identified another MLB team accomplishing that exact sequence/type combination before.

Three straight walk-off wins themselves have happened before in MLB history. But the odds of doing it with three different ending mechanisms — especially including a bases-loaded walk — are incredibly tiny.

So the honest answer is:

Three straight walk-offs? Yes, that has happened before.
Three straight walk-offs ending with a hit, an error, and a bases-loaded walk? I could not find any documented prior occurrence, and it’s very likely unprecedented.

This ain’t right. It was HR/Conforto, error/busch, walk/busch

Conforto had a day today at the plate. Much less stressful game. Imanaga pitched like his usual self.

The Reds brought me great shame this week. Absolutely pitiful stretch we've had v Pittsburgh and Chicago. From first to worst. fricking ridiculous. But that's our problem. The Cubs did what they were supposed to and beat us. Maybe we'll get our act together before the next series.

He's also basically a guaranteed gold glove in center field for the foreseeable future. That's a ton of value on its own.

It's only a matter of time, I think the Cubs have caught a few teams at the perfect time, including the Reds.

The starters are at some point going to get run early and yes, they have some of their bullpen getting back, but it's going to be an issue. And likely on this road trip. 4-5 might be a reality for the next 9 or even 3-6. The Sox are even playing competitive ball these days.
