Could the Nets Request to Switch All Home Playoff Games to Neutral Site OR All Road Games?

Obviously bc of the lunacy of NYC’s Covid policy on private business, Kyrie STILL can’t play home games but can sit in the front row.

We know that the NBA has already made moved game sites bc of an area’s Covid policy (Toronto). We also know the NBA thinks the policy is dumb but NYC doesn’t seem to be budging.

Obviously a Nets team WITH Kyrie on the road or neutral site is clearly better than home court advantage w/o Kyrie in the playoffs. Is there still a viable arena in NJ?

Political More Sports

Need that board to happen.

I used to come here cause people are pretty good at getting sources when trades go down, injury reports etc.

But it’s so over the top with political agenda in sports I rarely check in anymore. Bring back the good Ole days when people talked just the sports and not political agenda’s in sports.

What was overly political about the OP's question? There are many threads that this response would be appropriate in, I don't think this is one of them.

Every game that Kyrie scores 50+ makes it a bigger deal. I'm gonna bet he scores 40+ at Memphis on 3/23

What is the penalty for him playing? It's not the NBA telling him no. Does the city own the arena?

My understanding is the penalty is between the team and NYC. I’m not sure is this is merely a fine type situation or if it can escalate higher than that.

He can’t play. There is no penalty. The game wouldn’t start if he was on the court.

I want to say the max fine was $5000 per employee per day. The Nets could certainly handle that, but I’m sure there’s other stuff that would be threatened to them.

Thanks.

And how in the heck could NYC possibly be enforcing that??

The NBA is not allowing teams to pay the fines in these situations.

The NBA fined the Nets $50K for Kyrie going into the locker room at Barclays Center.
It's not their rule, but they are enforcing teams to abide by city rules/mandates.

There is precedence though for allowing teams to move games bc of restrictions at their home area. See Toronto

NBA is not letting the Nets pay the 5k fine In order for kai to play games at Barclays.

But would they let them move their games to NJ or play all road games in playoffs?

I don’t think that has ever been brought up. I’m sure there’s all kinda stuff the nba would have to do before saying it is ok to play a game in a certain arena and then you got the nets ownership may not want to take the financial hit of not playing in the home stadium.

The Nets are built to win a Championship NOW. This is their window. In addition, they moved Harden for Simmons to better than squad for a run. I would have a hard time believing the Nets would not pursue other options given what they have already done to this point to win a championship!
