Could the Cowboys get a 1st round pick for Tony Romo?

Lets assume that they beat the Packers and are 5-1 heading into the break. Despite what Jerry has said it would very difficult to take out a quarterback who is playing terrific for a guy who is one hit away from getting injured again. They probably will stick with Dak. Now they can't cut Romo in the offseason cause his post June 1st dead cap is $12.7 million but they could try and trade him. Teams like the Browns,Dolphins, Jets, etc are desperate for a quarterback and would probably take a chance on him for a 1st round pick and some other throw ins especially cause he only has 1 year left before his deal becomes easily cuttable.

Bro.. easy on the ESPN/bleacherreport kool aid

5th at best. You couldn't find anyone who could take that salary at his age w/ health issues. Even if a team could take him, they would likely cut him and resign under a lower value contract.

honestly the Browns probably would

nah he's old and always hurt

There is no way they trade romo. Zero chance.
Having romo is instrumental in the development of dak. Look at the stats and you'll see dak is excelling at intermediate passing but is league average at the short game. He's far below league avg on long attempts.
His value so far is managing the game. Avoiding turnovers and he's a plus rusher.
He has a ways to go to become a comet qb. There are things a healthy romo can do that dak isn't capable of.

This board is literally retarded when it comes to Cowboys talk.

A second round pick sounds more realistic, which is going to be close to a late first given that it's the Browns. Browns took a chance on RG3, they might as well take a chance on Romo.

I don't know about 5th round, but I don't think they get a 1st round pick either because of the health and age concerns.
I doubt Dallas trades Romo unless someone comes to them and offers a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd round pick. Then Dallas is back to the same issue of having no decent backup QB (not many teams do), but maybe with a youngerx healthier Dak, they don't need a serviceable backup.
I don't see Dallas getting rid of Romo this year though. If anything, he rides the bench, just in case things go south with Dak or he gets hurt. Then, they either redo the contract in the offseason or trade him for needs if they feel Dak is the future and Romo is a liability.

It is unbelievable especially when it comes to anything Cowboys.
Start a Jones thread it is like a magnet for the uniformed also. They really seem to get mad when you try to explain to them that Stevie Boy is running things now also.

wasnt weeden almost 30 when they took him in the first round?

quote:I think it's exaggerated how well Dak is playing. He is not close to playing well enough to be a game changer, and they need a game changer qb to be SB contender. this is not criticism of Dak, but he is not good enough to get them to the SB this year. Romo is.
a quarterback who is playing terrific

No.
He's not a cheap product, and it's obvious he will be fragile the rest of his career.

What do you think the dead money would be to trade him?

..and there is no way they are getting a 1st IMO.
I do think they would get pretty good value though...a 2nd wouldn't be out of the question to the right team.

he's right. an old, expensive, injury prone player is exactly the talent the browns go after.

Absolutely not. 1st round picks are significant assets. No one in their mind is trading for Romo considering his age and injury history, never mind his salary.
Posted on 10/12/16 at 10:34 am to BillCoby
Romo is worth 4 first round picks Baw, ask Cleveland how many it takes to find a Pro Bowl QB.
Posted on 10/12/16 at 10:37 am to BillCoby
They would absolutely get a first, and probably more. It's the market for a starting QB. Look at what the Vikings just gave up for Sam Bradford. And yes an old Tony Romo coming off of injury is better than Sam Bradford.
