It has nothing to do with winning

ND was terrible for over a decade

It has to do with a following and Texas could absolutely Excel as an independent

They are more valuable than ND

That looks pretty damn good to me. Especially if the SEC team is LSU Georgia or bama and the big10 team is Michigan Ohio state or penn state.

believe they would jump at the opportunity to getting a yearly game with the state of Texas.

Who are they gonna dump? Navy? (one of the longest rivalries in CFB) Stanford?USC?Michigan?

All have been on their schedule for many years.

They can't give up an ACC game and they also get 2 home
cupcakes every year.I could see em playing UT on a rotation but not a permanent rival.

And I wont argue that. While I think ND would try to find a way for a yearly series, I can see why it would logistically be a problem for them. But I can see them playing UT at Jerry world every two or three years and being happy at the bare minimum

Bowl Deal? TV Deal?

They'd shoot for the NY6 and if they didn't make those I'm sure bowls like the Frisco, Zombie Cotton, and Hawaii would all be happy to make room for them.

TV deal would stay with ESPN/ABC.

ND already has a pretty set schedule...who do they drop for UT?

They are only set through 2021 and it would be easy to drop MAC games for them.

Who exactly are you going home/home with?

Sure, all but Rice and OU. If a perma game with Army causes trouble just make that whoever the cheapest G5 is they can find to open the season at home. You can always stagger home and homes. They don't have to be in back to back years. This does't have to be a completely permanent schedule. There could be some room for certain teams to move around.

Point is that's the kind of schedule they would end up having.

TOP SCHOOL ATHLETIC REVENUE 2017
Total
1. $214,830,647

By reference, Notre Dame is #7 at $118 (and they had their own TV Network in NBC for years.)

funny, I know they are bigger than everybody else in CFB with the money, but its not like $214M a year is a big company.

Hell, the shitty company I worked for before this job was at $400 MM a year.

Texas hasn't been successful with a dedicated ESPN network.

ND, on the other hand, is still in league with NBC to show all ND football games. Why does that work? Because of the nationwide network of Catholics who eat this stuff up. Is any other college that appeals to people in every state? And if you aren't a fan, you tend to grumble quietly. From Rudy to other older football movies...it united a fan base.

Texas? Heck their next door states aren't their fans, nor are their kin folk. Tens of thousands of alumni, but not spread all over the US.

Mandatory aggie joke: the Aggie moved from Texas to Oklahoma and raised the IQ of both states.

However, as an A&M, I want them to because it would be amazingly entertaining to see the children lose their minds and throw everything at the wall to keep UT in the big 12

It would be amazing theater.

They're not gonna give up a annual home date for a home and home with UT.

Big 12 is with Fox even though the Longhorn Network is ESPN.Theyd have to secure a network for home games and SEC and BIG already have deals in place with ABC and ESPN

Not saying it's impossible but logistics and scheduling could get sticky. Not sure OU would jump at the chance to play em after they ditched the Big 12.

Not sure why you think it would be an issue for them to stay with ESPN and potentially have some games on ABC. ESPN would be thrilled to be able to put big time games on LHN and would probably give them a similar (more lucrative) deal to what they gave BYU (part of which was setting up a 6 game series with Notre Dame).

There would issues, some of which has been pointed out by some here. But this wouldn't be one of those issues

ND would just swipe Michigan for Texas

Texas is better game for them anyways.

Exposure in the South is huge.

Id bet good money Texas and ND have discussed these moves. It would be a huge power move
