With the money they have and the recruiting base in TX, I feel like they could survive and possibly be better independent. They’d get to schedule better teams than Kansas and Iowa state to pump up their schedule.

no. They haven't even won a big 12 title in ten years.

I dont see why they would when they get to double dip on both money from the big 12 and the LHN

However, as an A&M, I want them to because it would be amazingly entertaining to see the children lose their minds and throw everything at the wall to keep UT in the big 12

Notre Dame basically had to affiliate with the ACC for football.....so no Texas couldn't go it alone.

They’d have to negotiate with bowls to get access, which isn’t as easy as you’d think.

BYU has done it but those are a bunch of lower tier bowls who put into a contract “We will take BYU in X year if they are eligible.”

Texas would be locked into a lower tier bowl each year unless they either have access to another conference’s bowls, like ND with the ACC, or make it high enough in the standings for a playoff or New Year’s Six bowl.

Somehow, I don’t think the Big 12 will be letting them share bowl slots if they ditch the conference.

Zombie Cotton would dump CUSA for Texas as their destination every year they don't get into the NY6 with quickness. The Frisco Bowl would love for them to match up vs their yearly AAC opponent as well.

I would love to see what a school like Texas could get with its media rights. It would also maybe accelerate streaming services getting involved. Honestly it would be a really interesting case study if it ever did happen prior to the big blow up that's coming

They need a conference to bleed revenue from and teams to shove around

I think they'd just stick with ESPN. Their schedule would probably look something like this on a yearly basis

Houston
SMU
Arkansas
BYU
Notre Dame
Army (at a rotating location)
Rice (always in Austin)
Texas A&M
OU
SEC team
Big 10 team
Pac 12 team

Texas can do whatever they want.

They don't even need success on the field.

It's Texas' world and we're just living in it in CFB.

Alabama could win 10 titles in a row and Texas none and Texas athletic department would still rake in more money.

If ND and BYU can be independant imagine how much Texas would thrive...owning everything themselves outright.

Texas is the #1 athletic program in the nation, for coaches, destination, revenue, etc. And they don't even have to win on the field. Texas is the one school that could have stolen Saban away...but his wife was settled and old and didn't want to make new friends.

I wonder if they would just simply expand the LHN. Putting their tier 1 stuff on it would go a long way in getting Xfinity to start carrying it

What does this have to do with anything?

I am not sure whether or not ND would have won a big 12 title either recently

Why would Texas want to be independent, when they have total control of the Big XII?

Also... yes Texas takes in a lot of cash. However their athletic dept is still a dumpster fire, and ESPN is bleeding cash on the LHN.

They could if we were back in the heyday of independent teams twenty years ago. But if you aren’t in a conference, or named ND, you aren’t going to make it.

ND would 100% make room for a yearly game with Texas. Their entire program is built on getting as much national exposure as possible and I believe they would jump at the opportunity to getting a yearly game with the state of Texas.

Texas isn't a dominant team in their own conference, much less nationally

I swear I like to flame Michigan fans for delusions of grandeur but if Texas were even half as good as its fans think they're the most underachieving program of all time
