I’m old enough to remember that the talking points before the season were that no #1 QB pick in recent history has ever been set up to win as much as Caleb Williams.

Since then…the narrative has changed.

is Caleb not mobile? His entire success in college was built on his ability to scramble and ad lib. But he can’t ad lib and play Superman like he did in college. Plus he can’t read a defense for shite apparently because it’s all safe throws and/or he is getting sacked trying to find someone I’d be happy to dig up some old threads on this board praising Chicago for the weapons they got. Oh and Caleb also seems to be oblivious to the clock as well how many times do we see late game issues with him leading a drive?

5? You can’t name 2-3

Any half decent qb would be excelling with this group.

Yes. Think about how shitty the defenses were that he carved up in college. He has arm talent but he went from a 2 to a 10 in level of competition and it shows.

I'm not ready to write him off as a bust yet. He needs a competent OC/offensive staff that will actually coach him correctly and put him in the best position to win. It's not his fault that Chicago thinks offense is still stuck in the 50's..

We did this with Bryce Young and once he got a competent offensive mind in Kanellis he made actual progress and looks like he can play, yet most on here wrote him off as a bust too quickly. You have to give QB's 3 years before making a judgement either way.

Their stats are comparable while Williams is playing with the worst o line in football and a coaching staff that won’t last past next season.

Completely false. The Bears offensive line is ranked 14th in ESPN pass block win rate and SIS has them ranked 19th in pass protection. It's an average to mediocre unit but not even close to being the worst o-line in football. A lot of the problems are due to Williams holding onto the ball too long as well as his complete inability to read blitzes.

I think overall this rookie QB class looks like the most impressive one we’ve had since 2018 and could end up being a much needed talent infusion at the position for the next decade plus

Caleb’s talent is starting to show the later into the season it gets. Certainly questionable that he’s seemed to struggle the most at times with the best talent around him, but he’s got solid numbers for a rookie

Jayden has been other worldly already being in the commanders into the playoffs most likely. He’s been exactly what he was in college and been able to stay healthy, which I think was the bigger concern than anything

Bo nix appears to be in the perfect football situation for him and is leading the broncos to the playoffs as well. A big piece of this is the broncos unexpectedly having a championship level Oline to go with an elite defense.

Maye is working with future forex traders at WR and tackle and still making magic happen. Needs to cull the turnovers but he’s shown flashes of elite elite stuff. Obviously biased here and watch him the most out of all these guys, but if the pats put talent around him, he’s gonna be a problem

Now Pennix has a chance to add to this heading into next year as the unquestioned starter

And potentially next year JJ McCarthy would have a chance to step into a situation that already turned Sam Darnold into a top 10 qb, if he’s healthy and wins that job, could end up with 6 starters from that one draft class

People have come to realize how much these "scouting departments" don't know what they are doing much more than anybody else. They get fired if they pass on the guy with all the "measureables". Every week on here there will be a thread going something like ""how did Puka Nakua get drafted so late". This is the reason. NFL teams will always draft the Jamarcus Russell's early and the Brock Purdy's late.

The point of his post isn't about the first part. It's about the second part.

That's on the Bears for starting Williams though when there had to be obvious signs in training camp that he wasn't ready.

You keep putting blame on the organization but maybe he’s just a garbage player that’s getting exposed in the nfl

Turning the corner?? no they were going backwards under Ron. A team that is turning the corner doesn’t fire their HC go take a look at how many draft picks Ol Ron Rivera still has on the Skins roster.

His conventional stats are. But he’s absolutely terrible in pretty much all advanced stats (EPA/dropback, QBR, PFF, ANY/A, etc.)

This. Mediocre is a good word to describe them. But people think they’re horrendous due to their quarterback.

I haven’t watched all their games, but he holds the ball too long. He did the same thing in college. He holds the ball until someone is open then throws it.
In the NFL, you need to take your steps and release and it’s on the WR to be in the right place and catch the ball. That’s at a minimum.

Diving into the numbers a bit, his PTK time (time in pocket) is 2.4, which is the same as Daniel’s. This is usually a pretty decent indicator of QBs that get the ball out quick and make quick decisions

Tua has the best in the league at 2.1

Lot of big names at 2.3 - Rodgers, Mahommes, Goff, Allen, Burrow, even Drake Maye (and funnily enough Mac Jones)

Other QBs at 2.4 this year - Stroud, Stafford, Jordan love, Kyler Murray

Guys above that- Lamar, Bo Nix, Herbert and Purdy are at 2.5

And way ahead of the pack are Hurts and Darnold at 2.7. Them boys love to pat the ball.
