You think stats should matter in HER case?
Every WNBA game last week drew about 3-4 thousand fans.
Except Caitlin Clark games...on the road mind you.
Her games drew 17-20 thousand fans. That's the only criteria that matters for this 25 year failing TV and attendance welfare sport.

Maybe she doesn’t want to play in the Olympics. She’s been vocal about needing a break

Mate this is an important topic in regards to the sentiments percolating across America in this election year.
It's not only a valid topic, I'd argue that it's THE topic of relevance in sports for this entire Summer.

they have women playing basketball in the olympics?
Posted on 6/9/24 at 1:58 pm to TackySweater
I haven’t watched a WNBA game in my life, so I can’t comment on whether her game is worthy of the Olympics yet, but it seems likely that jealousy is playing a bigger role in her exclusion than anything she’s done on the court.
I’m actually surprised that the NBA and USA Basketball didn’t force her inclusion to drive interest and continue shrinking the NBA subsidy required to keep the WNBA operational.

FG%: 4th out of 9
42.3 - Ionescu
39.8 - Young
39.1 - Howard
37.3 - Clark
37.0 - Plum
37.0 - Taurasi
35.3 - Atkins
34.3 - Loyd
Holy frick, are those FG% legit? Only one of them is shooting over 40%??
I knew they couldn’t shoot but that is god awful

So? What does this even mean?
I just don’t think she’d be good for the team given her play style and hatred of her by peers.
In time she will be the team. IMO it’s best to leave her off this year.

Honestly, who cares if they hate her? They’re adults and should be able to get over it.
The issue with leaving her off this team is that the next Olympics is in 4 years, which is plenty of time for fans to go back to not caring about women’s basketball.

Now do Isiah Thomas
And there it is, the actual correct comparison to the 92 squad. Being on the cusp, but a team cancer, gets you left home.

Your argument is technically correct, but the two scenarios are not applicable.
The 92 Dream Team was the most hyped Olympic team with or without the effeminate point guard Isiah Thomas.
The 2024 USWNT would only be the most hyped Women's Olympic basketball team with the feminine point guard Caitlin Clark.

The 92 team also had Michael Jordan to appease. There is no Michael Jordan to appease on the women’s team, with the only possible comparison in terms of popularity being the excluded player.

Do they have any realistic competition for gold?

ts off to you for taking the time to present so much data.
Didn’t see any actual data in the long thread. It paints a clear picture.

I don’t think it would.

I was told her popularity should in no way whatsoever be factored in deciding who to select. So I took that out of the criteria and went on facts. It sure paints a picture.

Let’s take this in two parts:
1. Being on the cusp? She’s outplaying most of the other guards that were selected over her lol
2. Team cancer? Clark is a team cancer? lol
