If anyone ever tells you sport talk radio is hard (Stephen A?) just point them to this. A retard could do it.

He has a college national championship, and was damn close to a Superbowl ring. Don't know if I would agree, but I can respect the argument.

If Pete Carroll had handed the ball to Marshawn he would have won multiple titles at both levels

He’s one of the best for sure. Did it at high school, college, and the NFL.

He failed because he opted for Culpepper over Brees

He wanted Brees and the medical staff wouldn’t give him clearance.

Saban beat the Patriots 21-0, with Brady. With Brees he would’ve never been the Alabama coach.

Why isn’t Jimmy Johnson the best ever? He won championships at both the college and the NFL level.

Colin forgot about Jimmy. By that standard Barry Switzer is ahead of Harbaugh.

Took over a 1-11 Stanford team and went 12-1 in year 4

Took over 5-7 Michigan team, immediately won 10 games and eventually won a title.

Took over a 6-10 San Francisco team and immediately won 13 games, went to 3 straight conference championships and won the nfc.

Took over a 5-12 chargers team and immediately won 11 games

He is one of the best turnaround artists there is. Needs a Super Bowl ring to join the ring of truly elite coaches.

But he has to be up there for best ever successful player/coach combo in football?

By his own criteria Pete Carroll is better than Harbaugh. He won championships at both levels

Revisionist history by Nick to duck any blame for that decision. Nick had all the power at that point, if he wanted Brees as much as he’s claimed, it would have gotten done

Saban

Dont care that he failed in NFL

He didn't fail. He only coached for 2 years. He rook a 4-12 team and went 9-7 and 6-10 or 15-17, then when he left they went like 1-15. He was 2-2 vs Tom Brady and N.E. Its hard to find any coaches who win in their first couple of years in the NFL. If he had stayed he would have win Super Bowls, he was too driven not to.

rebuilt SF with a horrible team when he got there
If there’s an asterisk to be given diminishing his success in SF, he didn’t inherit a horrible roster. The one he had so much success with was essentially the same one Singletary grotesquely underachieved with. SD isn’t quite that talented but there’s a decent degree of parallel, including Greg Roman. He definitely did downgrade from Vic Fangio though (separately, if we’re being real, that guy might have a stronger claim to SF’s success over that window)

That said, if Harbaugh had done the conventional thing and blown up that SF roster, I have a hard time believing they get to 3 NFCCGs in 4 years. Was that decision genius or delusional madness? Debatable, as Harbaugh things often go

The question driving his NFL legacy is what the Year 4-5 Chargers will look like. His last year in SF (4), his Kaepernick bet had been exposed and his side of the ball was horrible, draft talent was not being developed, he’d lost the locker room, and he couldn’t play well with others in the FO / ownership anymore. As high as the highs were, he left SF in serious dysfunction and the collapse transpired under his watch overnight. If he’d been forced to stay for 2 more years, his time in SF would be looked at a lot differently, that much is inarguable

Is he a great NFL coach, or a supernova-ing geyser of molten autistic lava that hardens before it reaches the cities it’s poised to annihilate? Give it a few more years and we’ll know

If harbaugh wins one for the other LA team he will be one of the best to do it overall, not solely in one league or the other.

cheated to win it.

He has been successful in the NFL in the past and now, so props for that, but he is kind of like Meyer in my mind in that after 5-6 years he wears out his welcome somehow

By this measure Miami was bankrolling everybody so he was cheating and Jimmy only lasted a few years at every stop. Jimmy was hard on everybody as well.

He has one legit natty and it got vacated because he did NIL before it was allowed.

Still has a good record at both college and pro ball. Better than Harbaugh.

If he's going that way, then Jimmy Johnson was much better than Harbaugh
