Matt Deggs:

“Coach Robe was a servant, a Servant Leader of men. He served his family & coaches; he served his players & his program. He served his university and all of Acadiana,” Sam Houston State coach Matt Deggs said. “The man personally saved my life & my family- I will never be the same because of him. My heart is broken for Colleen, Ashley, Justin, & Austin.

God brought home a great one today.”

I never met Coach Robichaux and after watching that video you posted I can truthfully say that not meeting him was my loss.

I'm choking back tears.....

Well said.

Dave Schultz is retweeting Robe-isms right now. They're all great. @shutupdavepod

Wow! This is terrible news. Wasn’t there a report he was possibly doing better?

I’m sitting here at work in tears about this. That man is going to have the biggest funeral in the history of Lafayette.
RIP Coach Robicheaux. Prayers for his family.

The first news report I read after his first surgery (which was about 2 weeks ago in Lafayette) said that Coach Robichaux was "expected to make a full recovery."
quote:

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Athletics announced Monday, June 24, that Ragin' Cajuns Baseball head coach Tony Robichaux underwent a successful medical procedure following a heart attack that hospitalized him late Sunday night.

"Our number one priority is Coach Robichaux's health," Director of Athletics Bryan Maggard said. "We will be supporting Coach and his family in every way possible. I'm certain that Ragin' Cajuns fans everywhere are sending their prayers."

The procedure was conducted at Lafayette General Hospital. Robichaux is expected to make a full and complete recovery.

Yeah the initial reports made it seem like he'd be fine. Sounds like there were some unexpected complications from the surgery that arose and got worse quickly. Once they reported he was going to Ochsner, I was pretty nervous

UL Lafayette President Dr. Savoie:

It is difficult to imagine this University, or this community, without coach Tony Robichaux.

For players and fans alike, he was Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Baseball, a transformative, iconic figure who strengthened and nurtured the program for a quarter century.

Coach Robichaux recorded more than 900 victories during his tenure here, but his life and influence cannot, and should not, be measured in wins and losses alone.

Rather, his legacy rests in the lessons he taught student-athletes about their lives beyond the diamond. He urged them to be magnanimous in victory, reflective in defeat, and to exemplify integrity and determination in all they did.

Because he lived these principles, he was more than a coach. He was a lodestar, a light that guides travelers toward a destination. That’s how Tony Robichaux will be remembered by everyone who admired him and by the University he represented so well.

Gail and I join the University community in extending our condolences and prayers to Colleen, Ashley, Justin, Austin and the entire Robichaux family.

Very somber broadcast on ESPN 1420 right now. I always knew the kind of man Coach Robe was, but my only first-hand account was after my wife (girlfriend at the time) was smoked by a line-drive foul ball. Sitting in an empty ER hallway, we see a set of double doors swing open and in walks Coach Robe and his wife.

First thing they do is give my wife a big hug and allow her to ugly-cry all over both of their shoulders. They spent a few minutes visiting with us and kind of lightened the mood. Before leaving, coach led us in prayer and made sure to let us know to reach out to him if we needed anything at all.

The dude just cared. Players, community, people not paying attention at games. They all got the same genuine man. RIP coach

Really breaks my heart. He was head coach at McNeese when I was younger and I did his camps for 5 years. Great man and had a big impact on me and how important baseball was to me growing up.
