From the Lafayette article, love the one about hanging the breaking ball and the squirrel.
Robichaux, also a frequent motivational speaker, was as comfortable talking to a church full of wisdom-seekers as he was a locker room loaded with shortstops and southpaws.
Many of his quippy quotes, some of them repeated often in different variations, can be found on a Twitter page that in 20016 and ’17 was dedicated to so-called “Robe-isms.”
Among them:
» “When a monkey jumps on your back, don’t let it become King Kong. Make sure it stays your little pet monkey.”
» “We teach our kids to use the game of baseball, not the game use them.”
» “In high school you hang a breaker and you buckle the batter’s knees. Do it in college and you buckle a squirrel in the pine trees.”
» “Be a hiker, not a camper.”
» “You can’t sharpen iron with plastic.”
» “This isn’t easy. Whoever told you it was, knock on their door. When they open it, punch ’em in the jaw.”
Yet what came out of Robichaux’s mouth often was as predictable as it was quirky and unconventional.
“Nowhere in the Bible does it say how to be a great baseball player,” Robichaux said more than once. “But it’s pretty clear what kind of man you should become.”

They are going to have to find a way to rename that baseball stadium or field.
I get the Russo's donated and have the namesake. I have no idea who Tigue Moore is. I am sure it's someone who was as important to UL as Alex Box was to LSU.
But man, UL is going to have to rename something.

When I got married, I was a kid that was just a big Cajuns fan and I'd dreamed of taking my engagement photos on the field. I got in touch with Robe's secretary and she gave me Robe's cell number.
I was super intimidated to make that call - he was kind of a big figure to me.
He picked up, made me feel more than welcome and had a grad asst meet me at the locker room offering "anything I needed"
He even called afterward to wish me a happy marriage and make sure that everything went well for us...
Rest easy, Coach. This one is really tough.

Todd Lott:
Outside of my parents, this man was one of the fewest that believed in me. He knew my goal from when I first stepped foot on campus and never let my work be any less of that goal. Thank you for being there for the last 3 years of my life and helping me mature into the man I am today. #4Robe

I have no idea where I would be today without Coach Robe. The lives you changed not only through the game but for simply being a GREAT man. You will be truly missed; One last Thank you from the shirtless kid with the backwards hat and earrings. #OurCoach

Thomas Simoneaux (Wade's son):
This one hurts. I can’t describe the impact he had on my life. All I ever wanted was to wear that Cajuns jersey and play for him & I was blessed to do so for 2 years. He changed me for the better & will always hold a place in my heart. Prayers for Aut, Jut, & the rest. RIP Coach

To me, it doesn't matter who donated the money. Robe is the reason they have that stadium. I imagine his name will be on it in some capacity.

I wish we could have one more Lord’s Prayer with you leading it. These last 2 years coach has taught me lessons about life, becoming a man and a good person that I will teach my children some day Thanks for always having an open door. Thanks for everything, Coach. We all love you

“When I die, I don’t want to be known as a baseball coach. I want to be known as someone who benefited the lives he encountered outside of the field.” Thank you coach for allowing me to realize what life is about and having an open door about anything. I love you coach!

I'm also thinking of Jonathon Lucroy today. Between Skaggs and Robe, it's been a tough week for him.

This one hurts man. Won’t remember him as a coach, but as the most genuine human being I had the pleasure of knowing. RIP Robe
Kendall Rogers:
This one made me tear up. I was such a huge, huge fan of Tony Robichaux. He was THE genuine article. What you saw is what you got. Tony will be so dearly missed in college baseball, but his impact will never be forgotten. God Bless the Robichaux’s.
Austin Perrin:
Rip coach robe.. thank you for showing me what it takes to be a man and that life is bigger than any game

An old quote from Coach Deggs about coming to UL to work for Coach Robe

I agree. But it should probably be THE name on the stadium. I know the current namesake. I imagine it's going to happen.

John Walton at 67 and Tony Robichaux at 57. It's really sad. That's way too young.
