Yeah but I couldn’t think of a well known single owner small business off the top of my head. The point is the vast majority of these kids are getting 60k plus in benefits, and the opportunity to increase said income exponentially in sports or through education. Absolutely nowhere else in the world do they have the opportunity to make that outside of the ncaa so I’d say they are compensated well above market value for their service

But let’s not act like the scale is tipped in the athletes favor when it comes to the NCAA/CFB.
its a fun sound byte and all but the people who give it typically don't offer up any solutions of exactly you'd go about paying them. It's a pretty complex issue.

They get more than some athletes want to admit, however, they don't get a fair piece when it comes to what the NCAA makes. There is no way you can pay them unless you take away some sports because the NCAA would essentially go broke by that idea. Possibly something like 15k a year for football players but make them pay for their own apartments may be a start and leave everything for free for other sports since they don't bring in the money.

meh, yeah he got that stuff. He still wasn't fairly compensated.

whats fair?
Where else can Blake Fergurson of LSU make 60K+ per year for his football skills?

Where else can any of them?
Not the NFL
Not the NFL

Major college football is the one sector in this country that tells ppl “You need to wait 3 years to profit off of your ability”. Meanwhile they make their money annually and stripe kids of their ability to make a buck for the stupidest reasons (Ex. The UCF kicker that lost his schalorship for having a popular YouTube page).
This is going to change. The schools make billions, and the kids sacrifice their brains and bodies for some “benefits” that don’t cost the schools jack shite. Downvote away conservative southern football fan.

You can tell who the Patriots that love their country and their beautiful President are, and who the SJW losers are

That is what needs to be determined, obviously QB's and skill position players are seen more and would demand more money. NCAA would have to determine what is fair with everything else these athletes get.

At the end of Last Chance U when they show you Isiah wrights Cory case, his cousin says his gets a monthly stipend of $1500(I think it maybe 1600), so they are on over 15k a year tax free

Oh so we aren’t discussing “fairness” anymore we are talking market value. Where can Joe Burrow make 60k+ for his football skills?

So the health coverage they get is nothing? That’s a massive benefit considering. Also the minimum wage bezos pays his maid doesn’t put a dent in Bezos pocket. That doesn’t mean the maid deserves a 500k salary

If none of that shite costs money then why do so few athletic departments turn a profit?

Evidently he was.

Yeah, if college football players were unionized, I doubt they'd get a better deal than they are currently getting. That's also ignoring the fact what's good for a male scholarship athlete must be good for a female scholarship athlete too.

The only practical change is to let them make money outside of the school. That presumably would skirt the Title IX issues that cause every other idea to be DOA.

They’ll get a cut of some of that billion dollar pie

It won't happen from the schools or the NCAA because it's not feasible with Title IX. It's pretty simple.

Should just be a option for players...
1. Take the scholarship and all that comes with it
or
2. Take 60k for a season

I’d be willing to bet that Clemson came out ahead in this situation.
I don't know if you win that bet.
Clemson's athletic department had $111,126,235 in expenses last year. While they did have revenue of $112,600,694, 4.6% or just over $5 million came from the general fund&student fees.
The only reason why Clemson wasn't in the red was because of tax payers and students.
Just 14 public universities were able to show a profit, while not taking any money from the general fund and/or student fees for athletics. (Penn State, Ohio State, LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Nebraska, OKlahoma, Purdue, and California)
UCONN and UMASS by comparison need a combined $79 million to balance their books.
