You’d be wrong. Texas high schools play soccer as a spring sport. It’s a fall sport in Louisiana. Also factor in that most top club teams in Texas had required kids to sign waivers not allowing them to play high school soccer, which I believe was just recently fixed to allow them to play both. The last 10 years none of the elite talent coming out of Texas was playing high school. If you think any of the top talent from Louisiana could come anywhere close to the players and teams in Texas you’d be foolish.

You are clueless. It is a winter sport in Louisiana. Check when Top Drawer listed Texas schools for the rankings last year.....in the winter. Would you like me to list games where St. Paul’s played Texas teams in the winter?

You realize that’s pre-season games for the Texas high schools right? District play usually starts in mid February in Texas and state playoff are in April/May. District just started in Texas and Louisiana just held its state playoffs? And are you not going to address the lack of talent in the high school pool because all of the elite talents is already in elite youth programs that don’t allow high school competition? Louisiana is still 20 years behind Texas, Georgia, and South Florida when it comes to youth development.

I’ll add Jason Kreis to the list of elite State talent. Kreis grew up in Omaha and played in HS at Mandeville. He is arguably the greatest soccer player to play in Louisiana. 3x All-American at Duke. Played on the USMNT from 1996-2000. He scored the first goal in franchise history for the Dallas Burn and Real Salt Lake ; 2 clubs which has never been done before. 1999 MLS MVP, and first American born player to win the award. All-time leading scorer in MLS history from 2004-2007 (currently he is ranked 8th in all time scoring). First player to score 100 MLS goals. In 2009 with Real Salt Lake, he became the youngest head coach in MLS history (34) to win MLS Cup.

No doubt, but I was just going to list guys that played in the state during my high school years. He was way before I got to high school

TopDrawer and USA Today wait to do their final winter ranking until Texas season is done.

I am not talking about Academies because the topic is high school soccer

yeah and louisiana plays in "winter" which is the least populated and talented between the fall, winter, and spring options.

im sure there are good teams and players from louisiana like there are from all states, but louisiana is a lower tier state in regards to soccer talent.

there is nothing wrong with that, but it's true.

That's awesome! I played soccer at CHS and we made the quarterfinals my senior year only to get absolutely demolished by Acadiana.

We don’t have giant cities with pro teams.

ETA: I think the level of competition, and opportunity for advancement in south La, Ms, Al, and the panhandle of Fl is very unfortunate.

If LSU had a Men's soccer team and kept its home-grown talent, it would make the NCAAs every year.

Fun factoid. My brother played soccer with him at MHS. Just so happens his nephew was on my Mandeville premier team. He would come in town and he played with us at our practices a couple times when I was 14-15. It was a pretty cool experience getting to play with one of the USA greats at the time

Jesuit still has way more

But in all seriousness, congrats on beating St. Paul... tough to do (and I do not hear good things about their student section)

It's improving for sure. St. Paul's regularly goes to tournaments out of state and usually wins most of their games. I know they've gone to Mississippi, Florida, Texas, and California in recent years.

St. Paul’s was scheduled to go to California this year. California’s restrictions due to Covid nixed that

My som’s going to train with and try to make the 18 man team of a U19 Port City team...I’d expect those good high school squads to compete with the Jesters, Port City at that level. They’re basically all-star club teams one in the same.

Between 2005-2013, a Louisiana native won the college soccer player of the year award 4 times.
