quote:That's really great that all the fans and non-fans of Chris Berman can come together and put their differences aside at a time like this.
I'm not a Berman fan but this is awful
Seriously?

I can't begin to fathom what he and his family are going through right now. My goodness. Prayers are being sent.

Will wait for actual details, but I'd bet good money on who was at fault in this.

Man that fricking sucks. Retire in January after 3 decades of work to spend the rest of your days with the one you love. Then she dies 4 months later.
Life is so damn cruel like that. Reminds me of my dentist who was one of the nicest guys I've ever met. Dude sold his practice and set himself up for a great retirement. Died like 6 months later due to an aggressive cancer.
Just cherish every day. Tomorrow is not promised.

Perhaps I will feel differently when I am older ... but, I really see no reason why people this fricking old are allowed to drive....without at least some sort of annual test/requal.
That's too fricking old to be behind the wheel of a car.
And ... I don't know if Mr. Bertulis (RIP) was at fault ... just saying in general...really elderly people behind the wheel is a bad idea.

I lost my brother and dad within 30 days of each other; both unexpectedly and tragically.
Kinda know how Berman feels.
Someone is here one moment and then...gone. The finality.
He's got a very long road ahead, but with love and support, he'll get thru.
Prayers for him & family.

Wow. Prayers for the Berman family. Sad situation.
I'm with you. We had an elderly neighbor in the house I grew up in. Our family and the one on the other side of her looked after her. They had to take her license away after the 2nd wreck she caused.
I was leaving one day to head to class, and her big blue Buick was driving not in the middle of the road, but in my lane, coming right at me. I apologized to the people's yard I tore up when I drove into it to avoid hitting her. I don't think she ever saw me. And I was in a big Dodge Ram. Hate to think of all the kids that rode bikes around there if she had kept driving. I told my parents that night, they called the other neighbors, and we all came to an agreement with her that we would do her grocery shopping, take her on any errands or appointments, and anything else she would need a car for.
She agreed to all that but still snuck out in her car during the day. The first time was running off the road into a yard and knocking down a mailbox or light pole. The second one she hit a parked car. She had no family left and I forget all the details but she had her license revoked and the neighbors got the keys to her car.

Dying in a car crash is one of my biggest fears for some reason. I feel I'm really careful and pay attention to everything all around, but it just takes one person to swerve over to the wrong lane at the last second and that's it.
It really is crazy how much we put our lives at risk every time we get behind the wheel.
I find myself sometimes getting home from work and thinking "How in the hell did I not die just now". It's almost like we zone out when driving because it's like second nature to us.

Damn that's a good point.
Or you could look at is they had over 3 decades together, which is more than many and a blessing they had the time they did. Every day is a gift, we just sometimes lose track of this.

I was behind a car just a few days ago on a two lane busy highway. For some reason, either the driver fell asleep, was impaired, or distracted for whatever reason, veered off the right side of the highway, and went through the ditch into a vacant field. The car spun around several times and finally came to a stop.
If he had went left instead or right, he would have hit another car head on. Life is so fragile and can be over in an instant.
