Chip Caray is leaving the #Braves TV broadcast booth for a similar position with the Cardinals, sources have told The Athletic. Caray, son of the late Braves broadcaster Skip Caray, was raised in St. Louis and is the grandson of legendary former Cardinals broadcaster Harry Caray.

Chip Carey
@CHIPcarey

Something I never thought I'd say, I'm taking my talents to that dark, haunted city that is neither the South nor the Midwest nor the West... St Louis. I look forward to the coming harassment as I call games for the @Cardinals
. Goodbye ATL

Polarizing figure in Braves country. The old guard (Facebook type crowd) loved the guy while most people I know and follow on Twitter had a strong dislike for him.

He is good in huge moments but truly awful as “the voice of summer” for 3 hours a night every night imo. Really brutal conversationalist who had me listening almost exclusively to the radio while I watched Braves games.

My first introduction to him was when he did play by play for the Orlando Magic on Sunshine Network in the early to mid 90's when Shaq and Penny were there.

I won't mind this at all. People will find anything to complain about when it comes to announcers.

We’ve got a Carey here in Huntsville for the Trash Pandas(can not stand that name).
He is a drone. I love radio sports and he makes it tough for me.

As a Braves fan I hope we promote our radio play by play guy Ben Ingram.

When I first started watching the Braves in 82 on Superstation TBS it was Skip Carey Pete Van Wieren & Ernie Johnson. Man what a team they were. And Ernie always brought his big fish net to catch foul balls. Btw it wasn't long afterwards that current Yankee play by play man John Sterling joined the crew.

Who was the "Chopper to Chipper" guy? Was that Skip or Chip?

Could not care less. I'd rather Rooney on the radio....would rather Mike Shannon was still doing it with him

Definitely could go either way. Chip annoyed me A LOT but replacing him might be rocky. I grew up with Skip and Pete and hopefully we can settle on an established team that'll stay in place for a while. Baseball needs that consistency in the booth IMO.

Jim Powell or Ben Ingram would be fine replacements. Ingram is option one, but if he prefers to stay on the radio side, Powell would do well.

We were all set to hire the Seattle PBP guy, Aaron Goldsmith but fell through. He went to college right across the Miss.

Will not be missed.

His incessant rambling without point drove me up a wall along with his pocket stats he brought up every inning.

Good luck Cardinal fans and I hope you have good radio guys
