First of all, open the conference realignment board.
Let’s say the Big 12 collapses and Texas and OU go to the SEC, Texas Tech and OK-State go to the PAC-12, and Kansas and Iowa State go to the Big 10. I could see the AAC picking up the scraps and enhancing their conference. How I would do it:

AAC West:
Baylor, Houston, K-State, Memphis, SMU, TCU, Tulsa, Tulane

AAC East:
Cincinnati, ECU, Navy, USF, UCF, Temple, West Virginia

The reason I added these teams is because Baylor and TCU may not get into the PAC-12 due to religious affiliation. Kansas State and West Virginia are kind of the red headed step children left after conference realignment. This creates a pseudo-Big East and Southwest conference and merges them into one. I guess you could add someone out of the East to make it even, but the AAC currently operates with an odd number of teams. I think this would be a step behind the P4 but still a formidable conference.

I guess they would also still have Wichita in basketball as well

gives me some old school Big East vibes with a dash of the original CUSA thrown in. Good hoops, baseball, I like it.

I just don't see it. Thr majority of the conference is in a different time zone, road games starting at 9 pm, travel is mostly restrictive for fans.

I've been wondering if the remnants of the dissolved Big 12 pick up some AAC teams and form a new conference entity. UCF, Houston, Cincinnati

Only way the AAC grabs any of them will be if the Big 12 drops below the required membership numbers to continue as a conference, like what happened with the WAC.

If OU and Texas leave, that means at least three other members need to bolt.

Yeah that’s probably the biggest stretch in my hypothetical, though Lubbock isn’t too far from the Arizona schools. I guess alternatively they could be in the AAC and you have Tulane and someone else head East. Having those teams in would also make it a better basketball conference for sure

perhaps wichita state moves to A10, and AAC takes a stronger approach to being a football conference

I think WV has a decent chance of going to the ACC or Big 10. It would be great to see them reunited with Pitt and Miami.

Big 10 won’t take WVU for academic reasons. ACC likely won’t for the same.

They aren’t a major research university and state law allows pretty much any HS grad in state to enroll.

High, and it will be considered a mid major

I've been telling other TCU fans to accept the fact we are AAC bound now and stop hoping for a Pac 12 invite

WVU is ACC bound. Kansas and probably Iowa State to the B1G. Tech to the PAC. TCU and K State to the AAC. Those are the ones I feel pretty confident on. Baylor and OK St are the ones I'm really curious about. Not sure where they land and they are probably the biggest losers in this deal. AAC is a huge step down for both programs.

My concern isnt necessarily who we do or dont add but more what overall league are we playing in. This realignment just seems more and more like a break from the NCAA and anybody not in the remaining power conferences are going to be left out.

Sucks, but it seems like reality. Memphis had a chance to do what Louisville did back in the late 90's and 2000's and throw money at football, but, our AD at the time was hell bent on the thought that basketball would save us. I think there will be a G5 league sooner rather than later and it will replace the P5 under the NCAA umbrella after you guys split.

The only question now is what happens to basketball. Would that be part of the new power league or would it be football only?

I could see the AAC ending up with Boise St, BYU, WVU, TCU and Baylor for sure.

AAC East:

West Virginia
Cincinnati
UCF
Memphis
Navy
Temple
ECU
USF

AAC West:

TCU
Baylor
Boise St
BYU
Houston
SMU
Tulsa
Tulane

Doubtful. ACC is still doing what it can to convince Notre Dame, and they aren’t joining if WVU does. The ACC is going to be looking for what is considered an academic fit, which is why Penn State has been the rumor recently.

Doubtful that Penn St leaves the B1G. Would be a devastating blow for them if they did. I agree that WVU isn't an academic fit but we are playing musical chairs and the music just stopped. Even ND is gonna have to make a decision. WVU is a geographic fit and has traditional rivals from the Big East in the conference. WVU and ND to the ACC and Kansas and Iowa State to the B1G make the most sense.

Nothing is certain yet and it's gonna be very interesting to see how it all plays out.

The more likely outcome is that you get about 90-95% of that but the teams all go into the Big XII brand.

Let's say if you have 10-UT-OU-KU. That's 7, and you can add between 1-9 depending on how big you want to be and who is willing to be a decent business partner.

This is what will happen. Perhaps add BYU. There will be pushback from TCU and Baylor against Houston, but they will likely get in. Maybe add Boise and San Diego State and have East and West divisions.
