CFP committee and “best” vs deserving

Best is in quotes because it’s conjecture. An opinion based on the eyeball test made by humans with their own notions and biases.
Sports used to be an oasis of objectivity. Winners and losers decided on the field. It has now been sucked into the subjective. Mulligans and second chances for preferred programs.
Conference championships should include an automatic bid to the playoff. If the conference stinks they lose their playoff. But sometimes some college kids actually beat the USSR or Buster Douglas gets up off the canvas and that’s what makes sports great.
And what if you should have won your conference but got upset by an inferior team? That’s what also makes sports great.
Can the committee and decide it on the field.

College football has never been like that when selecting its national champion and if someone tells you otherwise, they are lying.

Completely agree and thought about that BUT back when it was the AP or even the BCS football didn’t revolve around the mythical national championship.
It was win your conference beat your rival get a great bowl AND if you were undefeated HOPE you you could add a natty.

Yes and no. But with the creation of the BCS, and eventually the College Football Playoff, the quest for a "true" champion would ultimately lead to the sport revolving around the "Who's in?" question. You can blame ESPN for much of this. They brought more notoriety and eyeballs to the sport while also destroying what it used to be.

That's why major college football needs to get with the rest of college sports and do a proper playoff.
Only 3 things stand in the way of that: the bowl system; people who think only the Top 4 teams deserve a shot at a National Championship; and MONEY.
And those 3 things are what will keep us from ever having that system.

There is no CFB playoff. Only the Ohio State, Clemson, and Bama playoff. LSU was the one and only exception last year.

You do realize how stupid you sound saying this, right?

What teams do you think will be in it this year?

He’s right in that their regular appearances perpetuate their great recruiting, which perpetuates their regular appearances.

It should never be about best or deserving. Set criteria at the beginning of the season for making the playoff. Make sure ALL teams are playing by the same criteria. Teams that meet the criteria make the playoff, boom, problem solved.
At the end of the day your conference or division runners-up can piss and moan about how they're better than XYZ team in the playoff, but they knew what they had to do to start the year and didn't do it. Tough titties.

LSU has a better win than Ohio St and Clemson this year
Let that sink in
LSU is the only team to play three top ten teams in a row
Two on the road

What that means is that a broken clock is correct 2 times a day and nothing more.

I wished they would go to 12 or 16 teams and you could still use “bowls” as the playoff games ..... #1 vs#16 in the Weedeater Bowl type stuff so you don’t lose bowls and sponsors completely . Rotate final four in the big bowls like it is now

Best is good with me. That is why there is a committee.
Posted on 12/15/20 at 8:23 am to Dogfish
How often has the committee made a glaringly awful selection?

I agree. The Bowls are dead. Even if you get one of the "Major" Bowls players and fans are not happy if it is not a playoff bowl.
I would have a 16 team National Title Tourney and another 16 team "NIT-Type Tourney.
I think this would cut out a lot of transfers and players shutting down early to get ready for the NFL.
Instead of those swag bags I would give them a cut of the playoff money for every game played and won.

They end up selling the swag bags anyway
16 team playoff
I would cut two regular season games off the schedule, no sense in playing patsy non conf games anymore.
Could probably eliminate the conf championships as well
