The University of Central Arkansas will move from the Southland Conference to the Atlantic Sun Conference later this year, UCA athletic director Brad Teague confirmed Thursday to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Shortly after the announcement of WAC Football yesterday, Central Arkansas AD @BradTeague shared that the ASUN would also be creating a 6-team football league, with a plan to go FBS in 2-3 years.

Per Teague, ASUN Football would include Central Arkansas and current ASUN/Big South Football members Kennesaw State and North Alabama, plus 3 other schools that are finalizing details, rumored to include Jacksonville State and EKU.

North Alabama

Wow, they JUST moved into D-I and now they’re going into a conference that’s going to go FBS?!

Southland is in serious trouble now. I really can’t think of any schools currently in FCS that would make sense to add.

In the same sinking boat as McNeese, Nicholls, and Northwestern.

Maybe should have played football this year. Of course all the teams left are poor LA schools that were holding back the Southland anyway.

UCA was D2 barely over a decade ago. And they got beat regularly by other D2 schools. They were in no way a North AL or Valdosta State level program, yet they loved up anyway because they're campus was swelling well over 10,000 students.

They also poached a few rival ex coaches in other sports (I'm guessing because of the revenue increases with moving to 1-AA) and now they're planning on going to D1. That will hurt Arkansas State quite a bit. Jonesboro sucks and Conway sucks way less.

What baffles me, with all these small souther schools planning to go up in classification, what the frick is NORTH Dakota State doing staying in the 1-AA abyss??

It's cool to kick arse and all, but why don't they try to join the MAC or something and try to win there as well.

Who knew Central Arkansas was in the Southland? These little schools are a couple of decades behind all of the other little schools.

This new conference being discussed will not be as good as the Southland conference was when made up of Arkansas State, Louisiana Tech, U of North Texas, ULM, ULL, McNeese, Lamar

When the current P5 schools separate, most of the shools that left the Southland in the 80's are going to be in trouble.

I think you're confused.. all of these schools are D1 schools. They just play in the FCS instead of the FBS.

Southland will have to look quickly at adding some D2 schools. Do like they did before and go raid the Gulf South Conference.

Feel bad for Coach Rebow and Nicholls. That program had started playing some good football.

That’s a game that should be played on a regular basis.
