I saw those rumors, but seems like a pipe dream. SWAC schools aren’t giving up those rivalries or the Celebration Bowl money.

An all Louisiana conference would be dope with: SLU, McNeese, Nicholls, NWSU, Southern, Grambling, and ULM. Add UNO for non-football sports.

SWAC isn’t good enough academically or athletically to join SLC

I think the GSC schools could be the target or the SLC could merge in with someone UCA leaving is more about them wanting money for other sports and the Sun is better exposure.

Jesus, I hope not.

You’d need teams from the GSC [1] willing to move up and [2] in a position financially and facilities-wise to do so. I’m not sure there are institutions in the GSC that fit the bill here. Best part of the Southland was the relative compact geographic nature for the longest time. There’s really no viable way to maintain that at this point.

TxSo
PVAMU
Grambling
Southern
UIW
HBU
Southeastern
NSU
Nicholls
McNeese
UNO
UAPB?

The Louisiana Southland schools kind of need to give up the idea that they’re better than the schools in the SWAC

The Mississippi and Alabama SWAC schools can more easily get HBCUs from GA to go up to D1 and join with them

It definitely helped travel expenses, as well as created familiarity and natural rivalries within the conference.

It made sense a school from Natchitoches was in the same conference as a school in Nacogdoches TX, and they were separated by only a couple of hours.

I've been wondering if all this COVID stuff (severe lack of revenues) would cause many of the G5 conference schools to consider this as well. With Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas and Mississippi you could have a pretty darn good G5 conference for football and baseball, and your non-revenue sports are only bus rides away for weekend conference matchups.
