I think we coulda had him for 18 mil a year with maybe less years that allows him another shot at a big deal when he was still only 30-31.
$110mil/6 year type deal.
Obviously I'm completely firing at the hip here.

1st round pick from Heyward rejecting the QO is a greater return then back end of the rotation pitcher named Shelby Miller.
The chances of a late 1st turning out as good as Shelby Miller are slim

Maybe I'm cynical but that's a pretty aggressive hometown discount. Not saying he wouldn't have taken it and we will never find out but that's a lot of guaranteed money to pass up
Also lol at the guy making the comp pick comment

I could be way off. Probably am.

I honestly don't know what he will get on the open market. I think it could be higher than some people think because his defensive metrics are so good

We'll obviously disagree here, but IMO he's not worth anywhere NEAR that kind of contract.

More and more presidence is being placed on guys who are elite defenders, great base runners, and get on base a lot.

Yea!! I mean the guy only hit like eleven homers! Why pay that much for such a weakling!

Let's revisit this thread.

wanted the cubs to trade for heyward, and then hopefully resign after this year. Oh well...now i hate him.
I'd like to revise my statement.
I don't hate him any more.

Yes I'd love for Lester to comment on this little dandy:

quote:
I feel like Braves fans have to talk themselves into thinking he's a good player. Ok, so he covers a lot of ground in RF? Is that even that valuable when you hit like a 4th OF?

This thread was so much better reading the second time around.
Pretty much everyone was wrong. Braves fans thought the sky was falling. Cards thought miller sucked donkey dick. Both sides kept it 100.
10/10 would read again.

And at the end of the day, the Cards have neither player and the Barves have Dansby Swanson, Ender Inciarte and Aaron Blair.

Exactly but now Lester is all up in Heyward's jock since he's a Cubbie.

He doesn't have to be the best player on the Cubs, his obp & defense are worth what he is getting when you factor in need for the Cubs major league ballclub
