Former Eagles player Mychal Kendricks is facing federal insider trading charges, according to Philadelphia-based U.S. Attorney William M. McSwain.
Kendricks made nearly $1.2 million by trading ahead of four acquisition announcements, according to officials. He is currently a linebacker for the Cleveland Browns.
Damilare Sonoiki, a former partner at a global investment bank, is also being charged with insider trading for receiving kickbacks from Kendricks, including NFL tickets and other perks, officials said.
"Within a year of beginning his employment at the investment bank, he was brazenly committing crimes," McSwain said. "He is alleged to have passed material non-public info to an acquaintance, Mr. kendricks."
McSwain was joined by FBI and Securities and Exchange Commission officials at a news conference in Center City Wednesday morning.
"Mr. Kendricks and Mr. Sonoiki are alleged to have cheated the markets, cheated other investors and placed themselves above the law," McSwain said.
This story is developing. Please check back for updates.

Since we're so used to violent crimes from nfl players, I actually kinda impressed with this one.

just glad we now live in a world where our athletes are being charged with white collar crimes

Get ready for another NFL lockout while players and the NFL argue over the automatic suspension policy for insider trading.

The Goldman guy will get off with a fine and can't trade for a few years.
Kendricks will just pay what he made back.
Wonder what the NFL will do here though.

They should do absolutely nothing.

Look at what they did with Zygi Wilf and Jimmy Haslam. Nothing.
I’m a little surprised about the evidence in this case going back to 2014. Were they really investigating these two guys for 4 years and tapping their phones?

There is about a .5% chance Kendrick’s wrote that statement
Football players don’t use who/whom properly

normally doing that to get more people, accounts etc.
Seeing as it's Goldman, most likely looking for politicians.

Yeah I guess they could tap the lines of the Goldman guy and see who shows up.

It seems like the Goldman banker didn’t follow the Urban Meyer Rule of 30 day texts though. They had some barely coded texts from 4 years ago.
